22 ¡Sabotaje!
ABSTRACT: The evolution of the first months of the Spanish Civil War made the Government to realize the necessity to reorganize and prioritize the defense of the Mediterranean coast. For this reason, the Coast Defense Direction, with jurisdiction about all the Mediterranean area, was created. Two groups were established, (North and South), which would cover from Cape of Creus (Gerona) to Motril (Almería), with the independent units of the Naval Base of Cartagena, the Balearic Islands and the "Comandancia exenta" of Almería. It is in the last one of them were this research focuses. This paper analyzes all the casemates or machine gun nest that covers the entire coastline; and more specifically the bunker built between the Cape Cope (Águilas) and Almanzora River (Almería). Constructions designed by the Lieutenant Colonel Federico Tenllado Gallego, whose resistance and internal boycott work rub the limit of treason, because he could have sabotaged this part of the defensive line.
