This chapter describes, justifies, presents the pros and cons of and illustrates the use of simulation
modeling as a handy, cost-effective and agile tool for policymakers. Simulation modeling
is flexible enough to accommodate different levels of detail, precision and time frameworks. It
also serves the purpose of a concrete communication platform that facilitates scenario analysis,
what-if alternatives and forward looking. We specifically define agent-based modeling within
the larger simulation domain, provide a brief overview of other computation modeling methodologies
and discuss the concepts of multiple models, verification, validation and calibration.
The conceptual framework section closes with a discussion of advantages and disadvantages of
using simulation modeling for policy at various stages of implementation. Finally, we present
a panorama of actual applications of simulation modeling in policy, with an emphasis on economic
analysis.

The Persian Gulf 2021-22 is the ninth in the annual Persian Gulf Series published by MEI@ND. It is a detailed analysis of India's bilateral relations with the nine countries in the Persian Gulf region and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and focuses on the developments of 2020 and 2021. It offers a comprehensive account of the internal politics, economic situations, foreign policy, security challenges and social developments in the Persian Gulf countries and India's strategic, political, economic and cultural engagements with the region. The book also offers policy recommendations for India based on the current state of affairs. Sameen Hameed is Assistant Professor in Middle Eastern Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her areas of specialization include the Middle Eastern economy, India's economic relations with the Middle East and energy security issues. She has authored several research and policy papers, and is the editor of Youth Bloom in GCC (2022). Md. Muddassir Quamar is Associate Fellow at Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses and holds a Ph.D. in Middle East studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is a prolific writer on contemporary developments in the Middle East and India-Middle East relations. P. R. Kumaraswamy is Professor of contemporary Middle East in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Since joining JNU in September 1999, he has been researching, teaching, and writing on various aspects of the contemporary Middle East. His works include Squaring the Circle: Mahatma Gandhi and the Jewish National Home (2018) and India's Israel Policy (2010).

Living with Energy Poverty: Perspectives from the Global North and South expands our collective understanding of energy poverty and deepens our recognition of the phenomenon by engaging with the lived experiences of energy-poor households across different contexts.
Understanding the lived experience of energy poverty is an essential component in the design of any effort to alleviate what is fundamentally a deep-rooted, multi-faceted, wickedly complex problem. This requires a nuanced understanding of the causal factors and the research methods that can respond to the flexible spatial and temporal nature of the condition, as well as its wellbeing and justice implications. Drawing together the expertise and connectedness of authors from the Global South and North, this book presents novel approaches to understanding the often hidden forms of domestic energy deprivation. Case studies from 20 countries provide critical perspectives on this phenomenon while analysing the policy practices, government strategy, and sustainability implications of divergent manifestations. The book takes a multidimensional perspective, challenging the bias towards energy production and service provision, which often do not align with the aspirations and realities of energy households across global contexts, thus facilitating a useful dialogue on the nature of energy poverty.
The book is a timely source for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars seeking fresh, diverse insights into the everyday reality of energy poverty and wanting to better understand the challenges a people-centred, just energy transition can present.

The idea of improvisation, broadly defined, has been integral to our imagination of the medieval musical past. It can be related to many elements of production: to the act of un-notated creation; to the manipulation and amplification of notated materials; to our observance of rigid rules and formulae; or to spontaneous freedom. Likely a product of the Carolingian Renaissance, this is the first medieval music treatise to address an aspect of chant performance that does not only relate to a memorized repertoire, but includes an unwritten practice of extemporizing an accompanying voice to a pre-given melody. The art of "coloration" or the ornamentation of a line, whether polyphonic or monophonic, had been an integral part of extemporization since at least the time of the Ad organum faciendum treatises.
