[Full article is in English]English: This article analyzes the role of school education as a medium for indoctrinating young minds through school textbooks within the framework of India–Pakistan relations. This fact is more pronounced in Pakistan, but even in the case of India, eff orts are not undertaken to objectively teach subjects in a way that helps sensitize students about the India–Pakistan relationship. The author argues that the young generations in India and Pakistan largely lack a shared understanding until they undergo a process of de-learning and re-learning. Hence, the borders between India and Pakistan remained intact and militarized but defi nite types of borders are also created in young minds. Unless the psychological borders melt, it is diffi cult to imagine a porous physical border between India and Pakistan. This article att empts to understand how pedagogically the image of an enemy is created in young minds serving the purpose of the state.
Mots clés : racialité du pouvoir, indigénisme, multiculturalisme, autonomie autochtone Colonial Situations, Ethnic Pluralism and Challenges to Indigenous Autonomy in Latin AmericaCristhian Teófilo da Silva This article aims to present anthropological and sociological concepts developed under colonial and contact situations to explain the persistence of the notion of race in the exercise of State power over indigenous peoples within the national states of Latin America. This will enable a conceptual reference and a critical reading of the constitutional multiculturalism in the region as a rhetorical attempt so far to overcome this racial pattern of domination and promote indigenous autonomies. The author presents a critical debate around the challenges of indigenous autonomy as an effective decolonization project in the post-colonial societies of Latin America. Palavras-chave : Racialidade do poder, indigenismo, multiculturalismo, autonomias indígenas
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to gain a greater understanding of the development of safer walking technology for people with dementia through contemporary literature.
Design/methodology/approach – A two stage systematic approach to searching the literature was adopted. Initially this involved searching the literature to gain a broad overview of the development of safer walking technology and the context in which it has been developed. Then, this literature was examined in detail to look at published evidence surrounding the use of safer walking technology by people with dementia. These articles were quality appraised and a meta ethnographic approach taken to synthesis of the findings.
Findings – There is a small but growing body of literature within this field. Whilst there is only limited evidence to support the use of safer walking technologies for people with dementia, the evidence to date indicates great potential for its use. If provided with the right support and guidance, safer walking technology has the potential to increase freedoms and independence for people with dementia; gaining them improved access to outdoor spaces and environments to support their health and wellbeing. However, if the safer walking technology continues to be associated with only risk management it will not achieve this potential.
Research limitations/implications – The published literature within this field is small and has limited generalisability as much of it was generated in recent years has been by the same small research teams, often reusing data sets. There is also very little research that examines the experience of actually using safer walking technology and even less which explores the views of people with dementia. It is evident that a greater breadth and depth of knowledge is needed within this field to develop a clearer understanding of how this technology is used and perceived by all stakeholders concerned. In particular the literature would benefit from greater consideration of the views and experiences of people with dementia themselves.
Practical implications – For many people with dementia, health and social care professionals can play an important role in ensuring appropriate assessment and support in the decision-making process when using safer walking technology. However, greater support is needed in decision making for all people with dementia, especially those people not currently engaged with specialist services. Therefore greater awareness of the benefits and limitations of this technology is needed by all health and social care professionals as well as the general public.
Originality/value – At the time of conducting this review the author is unaware of any other systematic search of literature or overview of research on the use of safer walking technology and its use by people with dementia. Despite this safer walking technology is growing in popularity, commonly recommended by health and social care practitioners and often marketed and purchased directly by people with dementia and their families. This review offers an insight into the development of the technology and the current evidence base for its use.

This book brings together diverse perspectives from the newest generation of scholars from Canada and China to better understand China in the 21st century. It examines China's socio-political structure, its particular relationship with Canada, and interaction with the international community; and discusses how to overcome the ideological differences between the two countries to establish positive and sustainable Canada-China bilateral relations for the future. Importantly, the perspectives are from young authors, with a different relationship to China (and Canada) than more established authors. This compilation helps breathe new life into the study of Sino-Canada relations from both countries, and to reassess and re-frame issues related to China in the 21st century. Huhua Cao is a Full Professor in the University of Ottawa's Department of Geography specializing in urban geography, with the use of geostatistical methods and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In recent years, Dr. Cao's research has focused on engaging urban indigenous and ethnic minority people in urban contexts using e-participation methods. He has directed numerous international research projects that have received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), the International Development of Research Centre (IDRC), the European Union and the Government of China. Professor Cao has also written numerous articles and books related to urban and regional development while collaborating with academics throughout the world. The Sino-Canadian relationship is another research interest of Professor Cao. In 2011 he published The China Challenge: Sino-Canadian Relations in the 21st Century with former Senator Vivienne Poy. China Challenge was selected as one of the 20 most important books in foreign policy in 2011 by Embassy Newspaper.Jeremy Paltiel is Professor of political science at Carleton University in Ottawa and was visiting professor at the department of international relations at Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2009. He received his BA in East Asian Studies from the University of Toronto in 1974, diploma in Philosophy from Peking University in 1976 and his MA (1979) and PhD (1984) in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published widely on China and its foreign relations. This includes articles on human rights and the Chinese culture, the elite politics of the Chinese Communist Party, Civil-Military relations and Sino-Canadian relations. He co-ordinated the Chinese domestic background theme of the Canadian International Council's China Working Group and authored two of its papers: 'Canada in China's Grand Strategy' and 'Structure and Process in China's Foreign Policy Making - implications for Canada.' More recently he published 'Reimagining Canada's Present and Future in the Shadow of China's Rise,' the concluding chapter in Huhua Cao and Vivienne Poy eds., The China Challenge: Sino-Canadian Relations in the 21st Century. He is the author of The Empire's New Clothes: Cultural Particularism and Universality in China's Rise to Global Status (Palgrave, 2007) and 'Mencius and World Order Theories'(2010), 'China's Regionalization Policies: Illiberal internationalism or Neo-Mencian Benevolence?' (2009) 'Peaceful Rise? Soft Power? Human Rights in China's New Multilateralism'(2007). In 2014 he was awarded an SSHRC Insight grant in the amount of $425,000 to study Canada's relations with China and the Asia-Pacific.

This double-volume work focuses on socio-demographics and the use of such data to support strategic resource management and planning initiatives. Papers go beyond explanations of methods, technique and traditional applications to explore new intersections in the dynamic relationship between the utilization and management of resources, and urban development.International authors explore numerous experiences, characteristics of development and decision-making influences from across Asia and Southeast Asia, as well as recounting examples from America and Africa. Papers propound techniques and methods used in geographical research such as support vector machines, socio-economic correlates and travel behaviour analysis. In this volume the contributions examine issues such as natural resource and environmental management, livelihoods issues in the context of climate change, land markets and land trusts, adaptive management of wildlife sanctuaries, ground water scarcity, flood hazards and flood plain management, non-conventional energy resources, community forestry and management and land use and land cover change. The significance of these topics lie in the pace and volume of change as is reflected through continued development within established fields of inquiry and the introduction of significantly new approaches during the last decade.Readers are invited to consider the dynamics of spatial expansion of urban areas and economic development, and to explore conceptual discussion of the innovations in and challenges on urbanization processes, urban spaces themselves and both resource management and environmental management.Together, the two volumes contribute to the interdisciplinary literature on regional resources and urban development by collating recent research with geography at its core. Scholars of urban geography, human geography, urbanism and sustainable development will be particularly interested in this book. On a historical global turning point, this book offers a thorough exploration of the 'New Sustainability Paradigm', originally developed by the Global Scenario Group (GSG) of the Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI) as a starting point for analyzing real-life transitions and transformations. 11 contributors from 5 continents present detailed analyses of economic and political transitions in Western and Eastern Europe, the USA, the Middle East, and in Asia, discussing the role of different players in the implementation of the New Sustainability Paradigm.Part I offers an overview of the six scenarios developed by the GSG and a short discussion of significant papers published by the Great Transition Initiative (GTI) of the Tellus Institute. Next come examples of dramatic historical and current transitions in Western Europe, the USA, Eastern Europe, the Middle East (Arabian Spring), and Asia, as well as an analysis of the potential of humankind to manage a great transition to the new sustainability paradigm. Subsequent chapters highlight the role of culture and education and review the role of different players for the implementation of the new sustainability paradigm. The focus of Part II is on the ecological pillar of Sustainability. The discussion includes urgent ecological problems including climate engineering, eco-criminality, bioterrorism, biodiversity protection, water, energy, and food security. Part III deals with needed innovations in sustainable waste management and sustainable city architecture, especially big cities in developing and threshold countries, where a significant part of the world population is concentrated. The fourth and final section offers an analysis of insights developed throughout the book, and outlines recommendations for the implementation of the New Sustainability Paradigm by civil society, grass-root movements, scholars, politically neutral NGOs, sincere media players, and by open-minded and enlightened politicians to manage and steer the Great Transition towards sustainable global democracy. Odile Schwarz-Herion studied law with focus on criminology at bachelor's level and earned an MBA from the Stuttgart Institute of Management and Technology (SIMT). The definitive pioneering blueprint covering the what, why and how of the blockchain. Blockchains are new technology layers that rewire the Internet and threaten to side-step older legacy constructs and centrally served businesses. At its core, a blockchain injects trust into the network, cutting off some intermediaries from serving that function and creatively disrupting how they operate. Metaphorically, blockchains are the ultimate non-stop computers. Once launched, they never go down, and offer an incredible amount of resiliency, making them dependable and attractive for running a new generation of decentralized services and software applications. The Business Blockchaincharts new territory in advancing our understanding of the blockchain by unpacking its elements like no other before. William Mougayar anticipates a future that consists of thousands, if not millions of blockchains that will enable not only frictionless value exchange, but also a new flow of value, redefining roles, relationships, power and governance. In this book, Mougayar makes two other strategic assertions. First, the blockchain has polymorphic characteristics; its application will result in a multiplicity of effects. Second, we shouldn't ask ourselves what problems the blockchain solves, because that gives us a narrow view on its potential. Rather, we should imagine new opportunities, and tackle even more ambitious problems that cross organizational, regulatory and mental boundaries. Drawing on 34 years of technology industry experience as an executive, analyst, consultant, entrepreneur, startup mentor, author, blogger, educator, thought leader and investor, William Mougayar describes a future that is influenced by fundamental shifts brought by blockchain technology as the catalyst for change. William Mougayar has been described as the most sophisticated blockchain business thinker. He is a blockchain industry insider whose work has already shaped and influenced the understanding of blockchain for people around the world, via his generous blogging and rigorous research insights. He is a direct participant in the crypto-technology market, working alongside startups, entrepreneurs, pioneers, leaders, innovators, creators, enterprise executives and practitioners; in addition to being an investor, advisor, and board member in some of the leading organizations in this space, such as the Ethereum Foundation, OpenBazaar and Coin Center.Just as the Internet created new possibilities that we didn't foresee in its early years, the blockchain will give rise to new business models and ideas that may still be invisible. Following an engaging Foreword by Vitalik Buterin, this book is organized along these 7 chapters:1. What is the Blockchain?2. How Blockchain Trust Infiltrates3. Obstacles, Challenges Mental Blocks4. Blockchain in Financial Services5. Lighthouse Industries New Intermediaries6. Implementing Blockchain Technology7. Decentralization as the Way ForwardThe Business Blockchainis an invitation for technologists to better understand the business potential of the blockchain, and for business minded people to grasp the many facets of blockchain technology. This book teaches you how to think about the blockchain. William Mougayar (Toronto, Canada) is a known entrepreneur, investor, blogger, mentor and advisor to startups and enterprises, focusing on blockchain technologies, decentralization and peer-to-peer models. For the past 2.5 years, William has been writing extensively about Bitcoin, Blockchains, Cryptocurrency and Decentralization. He has been described as one of the most original and deep thinker on the business applications of the blockchain. William is the General Partner at Virtual Capital Ventures, an early stage venture capital fund, and currently on the Board of Directors of OB1, the OpenBazaar open source protocol that is pioneering decentralized peer-to-peer commerce. Previously, he held senior level positions at Hewlett-Packard, Cognizant and AberdeenGroup, and he founded 3 startups, CYBERManagement, Eqentia, and Engagio.

From rejection to praise of irony. Dorota Masłowska in her search of "we"The adventures of Dorota Masłowska, experienced between her novels Snow White and Russian Red and Honey, I Killed Our Cats, show a world where capitalism is the only way of organising reality. At the same time, it is a power affecting all types of relations: among people and between people and the world. The motif connecting Masłowska's novels is the pursuit – through one's writing – of liberation from the tools of the capitalist rule recorded and reinforced in the language. Attempts at comprehending this rule, undertaken always as an element of a writer's ethos, are an extremely interesting path from destruction to praising conservatism and from combat for yourself (as defined by Hallward) – as an expression of a specific configuration of reality – to the singularity of a writer's absolute. Taking this path requires a change to the use of two literary categories: grotesque and irony which remain Masłowska's trademarks. At the same time, in her subsequent books grotesque and irony bring a new angle to her polyphonic writing. The author analyses the evolution of Masłowska's writing making a (critical) use of the tools of postcolonial theory. She refers to the notions of "singular" and "specific" as used by Peter Hallward in his Absolutely Postcolonial. Writing between Singular and the Specific (2001). In his dissertation, Hallward presents two trends; a description thereof allows him for "the global and contemporary discrimination of fundamental approaches to our general conceptions of agency and context, self and other, politics and particularity." Snochowska-Gonzalez refers Hallward's categories to the subject of interest of the postcolonial theory (like freshly located and de-territorialisation, national determination and freedom from it). She develops the method of applying analytical tools presented in her article "Od melancholii do rozpaczy. O prozie Andrzeja Stasiuka" published in Studia Litteraria et Historica, no. 2 (2013).Od odrzucenia ironii ku jej afirmacji. Writing between Singular and the Specific (2001). Hallward przedstawia w niej dwie tendencje, których opisanie pozwala mu na "całościowe i współczesne rozróżnienie zasadniczych ujęć ogólnych koncepcji sprawstwa i kontekstu, koncepcji 'ja' i 'innego', polityki i partykularności". Snochowska-Gonzalez proponuje odniesienie kategorii Hallwarda do tematyki poruszanej przez teorię postkolonialną (takich jak zlokalizowanie i deterytorializacja, narodowe zdeterminowanie i wolność od niego). Autorka rozwija w tekście metodę zastosowania narzędzi analitycznych, przedstawioną w artykule Od melancholii do rozpaczy. O prozie Andrzeja Stasiuka, opublikowanym w piśmie "Studia Litteraria et Historica", nr 2 (2013).
"Objectivity fetish." Our Class by Tadeusz SłobodzianekOur Class was received in Poland with enthusiasm. The author was praised for his courage and his voice was considered a balanced part of the Jedwabne pogrom discussion, taking place in Poland since 2000. Why this enthusiasm now, when the publication of the Neighbours was received without it? What changes to narration about Jedwabne provided by Słobodzianek were so successful? The article described the drama's reception which turns out to be selective. It also refers to the play's text, bringing out two orders of presenting and explaining the events. Firstly, Our Class creates a picture of interpersonal relations where social mechanisms of discrimination are erased. This thread is picked up and developed by the Polish reviewers. The Slaughter on Jews becomes an outcome of a conflict between two equal groups with similar possibilities of action and agency and therefore not linked to domination of the majority over the minority. Hence, the symmetry of harm and as a consequence, the question of guilt and the alleged tragedy of the characters becomes unsolvable. That is supported by psychological explanations of motives and behaviours, modelled on family relations. The viewpoint of the event's participants, that is a discrimination symptom itself, is being treated as an objectifying description. Seen up close and psychologized fates of the characters veil the background of the dominating group's violence. This violence can be explained only in sociological terms. However Słobodzianek refers also to descriptions on a social level. In that manner he constructs the scene of Rachelka's wedding and the handling of her salvation after the war relating it to extraordinarily described phenomena of the Righteous Among the Nations' social functioning. He notices and describes subordination rituals organised for the Survivors and the Survivor's mimicry. Those threads were completely ignored by the reviewers, however. They were also unable to break through the narration structures of the first type, which are more recognisable. Wątek ten podchwytują i rozwijają polscy recenzenci. Wymordowanie Żydów okazuje się następstwem konfliktu równorzędnych grup z podobnymi możliwościami działania i sprawstwa, a więc nieuwikłanych w stosunki dominacji większości nad mniejszością. Stąd wynika symetria krzywd, a w konsekwencji nierozstrzygalność pytania o winę i domniemany tragizm aktorów zdarzeń.
In this paper, the author analyzes family status of the child conceived by artificial reproduction technologies using the following treatments: homologues artificial insemination, heterologus artificial insemination (artificial insemination by donor), ovum donation, embryo donation and surrogate motherhood. One specific situation of homologues artificial insemination is posthumous insemination, insemination after the death of the husband/partner. This procedure is allowed in, for instance, United Kingdom, but not allowed in France, Switzerland, and Italy. Considering genetics elements in this situation there is no doubt on fatherhood - father is a man whose sperm is used for insemination, regardless of the fact if frozen sperm or frozen embryo is used in the procedure. Nevertheless, until 2008 in United Kingdom, the husband/partner was not considered as legal father, because of the fact that the child was born after his death. Heterologous artificial insemination could be used in three different situations. First, when subjects are spouses or unmarried partners of different sexes. Second, when subjects are spouses or unmarried partners of the same sex and the third if a single woman is an only subject. Most recent procedure is the one in which subjects are spouses or unmarried partners of the same sex, specifically two women. This procedure is allowed in the United Kingdom and Sweden. In these legislatures, there is a rule that the woman who delivers the child is legal mother, and her spouse/partner is a second parent of the child. The most recent procedure of egg donation is a donation of only a part of an egg, mitochondrial DNA. In this case, there are in fact three genetic parents of the child: two genetic mothers and a father. Legally, the child has one mother (the woman who delivers a child) and a father. One of potential outcomes of the recent research is the ability to create human embryo without any male genetic contribution - by transferring the nucleus of a somatic cell from one woman into an enucleated egg of another. In that case, the child would not have genetic father at all. Bearing in mind the new artificial reproduction technologies and their influence to legal rules of establishment of the family status of the child, it could be said that the legal principle of the autonomy of the parties is widened in comparison to material truth. People who wish to be parents become legal parents although they are not generic parents. Sometimes they cannot be genetic parents due to their infertility and sometimes because they are of the same sex. As a result of artificial reproduction technologies, a child could have a genetic link with one of the parents, only with a mother - in the heterologous insemination, only a father - as in egg donation and genetic surrogacy. The child could have genetic link with both of the parents - as in the gestational surrogacy, or it could have no genetic links with his/her legal parents - as in embryo donation. According to some European legislatures, it is possible for the child to have a mother and the other female parent, or a father and the other male parent. Surrogate mother, as well as donors of the genetic material, are not considered as parents. Radical change in social and individual perception of parenthood could accept the fact the child could have more than two parents with different roles (biological - genetic parents, gestational mother, social - legal parents).
