The writings of the Indian Diaspora have received a great deal of attention and critical acclaim throughout the world. Rohinton Mistry is a well renowned author in the contemporary commonwealth literature and occupies a significant place among the writers of Indian Diaspora. Even though he is settled in Canada; it is his upbringing in Mumbai that reflects in all his writings. The distinct Mumbai culture, particularly the Parsee way of life, the people of the city and even the politics of India are major themes in his novels. Rohinton Mistry as a writer of Diaspora has carved a niche for himself. His works such as: "Tales from Firozsha Baag", "Such A Long Journey", "A Fine Balance" and "Family Matters"; mark a new kind of writing, resulting from a fragmented, splintered world. As a Diasporic Parsi writer, very sensitively he has recalled his community's journey through time and history with a sense of loss and nostalgia. His books portray diverse facets of Indian socioeconomic life; as well as Parsi Zoroastrian life, customs, and religion. Many of his writings are markedly "Indo-nostalgic". Rohinton Mistry through his Diasporic discourse has well depicted his ancestral background, his community's engaged situation in a metropolis like Bombay and his deep attachment with and nostalgia for a world gone by. In this paper an attempt has been made to delineate diasporic discourse in the works of Rohinton Mistry. Although he is obsessed with the colonial and postcolonial experiences in India, we can find some traces of Canada in his literature. His characters dream of being integrated into, and accepted by, Canadian society on the one hand and on the other hand, these same characters are torn by an insatiable desire to be true to their native culture; to honor and cherish their own, distinct cultural identity.Keywords: Diaspora, Cultural identity, Contemporary Canadian literature, Parsi.

Charles Underwood was in the United States Army for more than 31 years from 1941 to 1972. His active military service included command of infantry, armored infantry and armored units from platoon through brigade. Most staff assignments were in information and public affairs. He was a Prisoner of War for the Japanese Imperial Army from 1942-1945 and survived the Bataan Death March. ; The collection consists of slides, photographs, letters, military documents, and other personal documents of Charles Underwood. Since the industrialization in the 19th century, Switzerland has been an attractive destination for immigrants. In 2009, foreign residents constituted 22.9 percent of the total population. Switzerland was thus host to more foreigners than many other European countries. Despite these facts, Switzerland has - for a long time - denied to be a country of immigration. Coherent integration policies have therefore been designed only in recent years. While conditions for immigration have been eased for EU citizens since the 1990s, immigration of third country citizens is currently limited to the highly qualified and family reunification.

The Confederate Graves Survey Archive of the Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans consists of surveys of cemeteries throughout Texas, and portions of Oklahoma and New Mexico. The surveys document the interment of Confederate States of America military veterans. United States of America (Union) veterans, as well as able-bodied men at the time of the Civil War, are also documented. 13 boxes entitled "Grave Surveys" contain grave surveys listed county-by-county, 3 boxes of "Unit Files" list surveyed individuals by their military unit. Finally, 17 boxes contain "Veteran Files" that document each veteran by name in "last name, first name, middle initial" format. Viroporins are viral proteins with ion channel (IC) activity that play an important role in several processes, including virus replication and pathogenesis. While many coronaviruses (CoVs) encode two viroporins, severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV (SARS-CoV) encodes three: proteins 3a, E, and 8a. Additionally, proteins 3a and E have a PDZ-binding motif (PBM), which can potentially bind over 400 cellular proteins which contain a PDZ domain, making them potentially important for the control of cell function. This document summarises the high level purposes, goals and approaches the Australian BioCommons will pursue during its establishment phases. The content was developed through a process of national consultation and planning around an investment in bioinformatics research infrastructure in Australia and the text summarises the concepts and considerations motivating the investment, which has now been made. The strategy as set out aims to ensure Australian life science research remains globally competitive, by providing access to the digital tools, methods and training researchers require working in areas such as food security, environmental conservation and disease treatments. High level descriptions of the purpose and organisational structure of the Australian BioCommons, its motivating principles and the key challenges it will address, are included in the text. A focus is defined for the BioCommons service layers and the overall properties of a cloud infrastructure termed the 'BioCloud' supporting those services are described. The BioCommons has been initiated over the period 2019 to 2023 by funding from Bioplatforms Australia through the Australian Government National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).

A standard feature of the contemporary internet landscape is the ability for people to comment on published content and to interact with other individuals, discussing the issues at hand and engaging with each other in debate. In this thesis, I describe a method for the automatic detection of author stances in online forums with respect to discussions on divisive, polarizing social issues, such as gun control and marriage equality {--} a task which is often unproblematic for human readers of the discourse. The research investigates the linguistic and rhetorical devices used by discussion participants to express their topic stance in the context of multi-party, multi-threaded discourse. Along the way, I address necessary sub-tasks in the author stance detection problem, such as the classification of the topic stance of an individual contribution to the discourse, and the assessment of the level of agreement or disagreement between adjacent posts {--} which is crucial, given the highly interactive nature of this genre. I also identify features that provide evidence of an author's topic stance from the very structure of the discourse, without any information at all from the text of the comments posted. The final model is a collective classifier that is able to synthesize all of the stance indicators provided by these different sources, deal with the inconsistencies in this information that may arise, and arrive at a single prediction of the topic stance for every participant in the discussion. The model has many applications in industry and public life, including more tailored newsfeeds, social network suggestions, and use in political fundraising or advocacy campaigns.

Electronic government and electronic participation continue to transform the public sector and society worldwide and are constantly being transformed themselves by emerging information and communication technologies. This book presents papers from the 14th International Federation for Information Processing's EGOV conference (IFIP EGOV 2015), and its sister conference, the 7th Electronic Participation (ePart) conference, held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 30 August to 2 September 2015, with the support and sponsorship of the University of Macedonia. Through the years, both of these conferences have established themselves as leading scientific events in their field, providing a forum for scholars to present and discuss their work. Included here are 31 accepted ongoing research papers, grouped under the following headings: eParticipation; policy modeling; open government and smart cities; general e-government; and e-government services; as well as 6 Ph.D. colloquium papers, 5 accepted posters and 3 workshops. The title 'Forgetting Foucault?', minus the question mark (a very important omission, of course), is one I have borrowed from Baudrillard's famous paper of 1980 which tries to cut Foucault's thesis about power/knowledge down to size but fails to tell us exactly why Foucault should be forgotten'. 1 Racevskis describes the Baudrillard article as 'a fairly abstruse poetico-philosophic essay that indicts Foucault for collusion with prevailing myth-making strategies. Foucault,' Racevskis continues, 'is shown by Baudrillard to have become infatuated with the imagi- nary force of his own discourse, and his genealogy is depicted as a system satisfying a certain hegemonic logic of reason. ' 2 In effect, not only has Foucault not been forgotten, the contrary is the case; a Foucault industry has grown over the ten years since his death with a Centre for Foucauldian Studies set up in Paris. What were Foucault's own views about his posterity? Why would Baudrillard want us to forget Foucault and what is this continuing presence his memory constitutes? ; peer-reviewed

It has long defined settler countries, such as Canada; it is affecting communities of departure and return, ranging from the Azores to Zimbabwe; and it is increasingly impacting countries that have traditionally not considered themselves as major immigrant destinations, like many European countries. Meanwhile, individual migrants and their families experience departure, migration, and arrival differently than the communities shaped by them. From both societal and individual perspectives, we can ask whether migration accomplishes what it promises to achieve. Does migration contribute to the economic, social, and cultural well-being of societies?
