Unter den zahlreichen Arbeitsmigranten, die in den 1960ern und 1970ern nach Deutschland zugewandert sind, waren auch Kroaten. Mehrere Hunderttausend Menschen kroatischer Herkunft sind in Deutschland geblieben und leben dort noch heute. Die Studie umfasst rund vierzig Jahre der multilokalen Lebensweise verschiedener Generationen. Ihr Leben hat sich zwischen zwei Orten, einem im Herkunftsland und anderem im Aufnahmeland, abgespielt und oft werden beide als Zuhause angesehen. Die Selbstaussagen der Migranten und ihrer Nachkommen thematisieren ihre Sicherheitswünsche und Rückkehrpläne, Familienstrukturen, Formen der lokalen Eingliederung und Zugehörigkeitsgefühle. Die Studie bietet einen neuen Blick auf die kroatische Migration nach Deutschland und eröffnet neue Perspektiven auf die Frage nach Integration von Zuwanderern allgemein.

Rad analizira neke aspekte iznimnoga migracijskog procesa što se odvijao u Europi od polovine rujna do početka studenoga 2015. Usredotočuje se na analizu upravljanja tom migracijom u Hrvatskoj kroz prikaz funkcioniranja prihvatnoga centra za izbjeglice u Opatovcu. Primjenjuju se kvalitativno etnografsko istraživanje i antropološki pristup. Etnografska perspektiva nudi kompleksno viđenje odgovora na događaje, upućujući na paradokse u upravljanju migracijom u Hrvatskoj. Ustvrđuje se da je kontradiktornost sadržana u neksusu sigurnosnih i humanitarnih zahtjeva upravljanja migracijskim procesom stalno prisutna, a ponajviše dolazi do izražaja zbog međudržavne nesuradnje te jasnoga stava i zajedničke politike EU-a. Time je EU pridonio produbljivanju humanitarne migracijske krize, ali i izložio vlastitu duboku krizu vrijednosti. ; The article analyses certain aspects of the exceptional migration process unfolding in Europe from the middle of September to the beginning of November, 2015. It focuses on analysis of managing that migration in Croatia through the presentation of the functioning of the reception (and transit) centre at Opatovac. A qualitative ethnographic and anthropological research approach has been applied. The ethnographic perspective offers a complex view of responses to the events, pointing out the paradoxes in refugee reception and transit migration management in Croatia. It is established that there are constant contradictions contained in the nexus of security and humanitarian demands in the migration process management, these largely coming to the fore because of a lack of international co-operation and a firm stance and common policy on the part of the EU. In that way, the EU has contributed to the deepening of the humanitarian migration crisis, but also demonstrated its deep value crisis.

La translocalité explique mieux que la transnationalité la morphologie sociale et les réalités vécues par les populations de migrants, y compris les formes d'interaction sociale, de modèles d'organisation, de pratiques culturelles et d'autres activités mises en œuvre par rapport à leur patrie respective et à leurs compatriotes translocaux dans les autres pays. L'étude de ces pratiques chez les migrants bosniaques et croates montre que les lieux de culture et les identités locales matérialisées transcendent l'espace géographique et le temps chronologique – que la mobilité et l'attachement à une localité ne sont pas intrinsèquement contradictoires, mais peuvent être des processus complémentaires.

"The book offers a critical overview of Croatian ethnology written by the most prominent Croatian ethnologist/ anthropologist in the second half of the 20th century - Dunja Rihtman-Augustin (recently deceased). She was the first Croatian ethnologist to break with the long established tradition of diffusionist (culture area) studies of her contemporaries and start to anthropologize Croatian ethnology. This book, compiled and completed by Jasna Capo Zmegac, highlights some crucial remarks with regard to the relationship between ethnology and politics. This volume is a collection of papers presented at the 60th International Academic Week organized by the Southeast Europe Association in October 2022. The event brought together scholars to discuss the various facets of international return migration from diverse destination countries back to Southeast Europe.

This book deals with the displacement of the populations that have so far been studied mainly under the headings of "(co-)ethnic migration" and "ethnically privileged migration". As the main adjective found in these syntagmata indicates, these are migrations in which ethnicity figures as a prominent factor, both at the point of origin and at the point of the migrants' destination. These migrations have been engendered by the reconfiguration of the political landscape after major European 20th-century wars and/or the more or less peaceful demise of the communist regime in Europe at the end of the last century. The recent most prominent examples of both of these processes are the former Soviet Union and the former Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. Methodologically and epistemologically, this volume is an exercise in the comparative treatment of co-ethnic migrations, in particular with regard to the question as to what happened to these co-ethnic groups after their resettlement in their putative ethnic homeland.

In what ways did Europeans interact with the diversity of people they encountered on other continents in the context of colonial expansion, and with the peasant or ethnic 'Other' at home? How did anthropologists and ethnologists make sense of the mosaic of people and societies during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when their disciplines were progressively being established in academia? By assessing the diversity of European intellectual histories within sociocultural anthropology, this volume aims to sketch its intellectual and institutional portrait.
