The objective of our work was to identify the role mass media play in crisis communication. We chose the "methanol affair" as an example of a crisis situation which seriously affected the health and lives of people. We wanted to find out whether there are links between the number of published articles and the subsequent volume of spirits sold during the crisis situation in the Czech Republic such as the methanol affair. We used regression analysis and established that the number of articles related to the methanol affair significantly influenced the sales of spirits. The publication of each article was followed by a decrease in sales of spirits and vice versa, i.e., following a decline in the number of articles, sale volumes went up. Negative consequences have also been reported by producers whose annual sales have fallen in a year-to-year comparison. Last but not least, the government also suffered a loss by collecting significantly less money from excise duty as well as other taxes (VAT, income tax). The role of mass media is crucial in crisis communication, businesses should not underestimate the cooperation with mass media and they should be the first to promptly inform the mass media so that they can maintain the confidence of consumers.

Although private or community initiatives for biodiversity conservation (such as land trusts) have a strong tradition in many countries, rigorous evidence of recently evolved movements in post-socialist countries is missing. This study describes the evolution of Czech land trust movement and analyses their representatives' motivation for engagement in biodiversity conservation. It also investigates the intensity of interaction among public and land trust conservation efforts. For this purpose, we identified localities in which the territory managed by Czech land trusts overlaps with small-scale public nature reserves managed by regional governments. We conducted semi-structured face-to-face interviews with representatives of all NGOs and regional officials in-charge. Our qualitative analysis revealed that some regional biodiversity conservation officials see land trusts as partners, but others are rather indifferent to, or uninformed about, their activities. Additionally, land trust representatives see themselves as complementing the public effort: their main motivation for engagement is to facilitate biodiversity conservation in addition to the public provision.

This study aimed to understand changes in the culture of consumption in the selected consumer seg-ments regarding COVID-19 during the lockdown. The empirical research was conducted with a sample of 534 households. To predict changes in consumer behavior, the two-step clustering method was used. We also use the decision-tree model. We created four selected segments with remarkable consumption changes on the basis of their opinions concerning three points of view, namely, behavior changes, de-mographic data, and self-beliefs. Consequently, we classified subject pertinence (i.e., single respon-dents) to single clusters by decision trees using various statistical calculations to place the chosen attri-bute within the node of the tree structure. The factors most statistically significant for inclusion in the cluster were willingness to give up personal freedom, conservatism, and preferring functionality to appearance/design, with the last significant factor being meeting deadlines. We find indications that the more people purchase online, the less they decrease expenses and support charities, or/and the more people solve things remotely, the less they restrict taking loans. The results will help in identifying future models in retail conditions.
