RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES OF NATIONAL MINORITIES OF KHARKOV IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE PARTY-STATE POLICY REGARDING THE CHURCH 1920s - 1930s ;
The article analyzes the basic principles of party-state policy of the 1920s - 1930s in relation to religion and the features of their application to the religious communities of ethnic minorities of Kharkіv. It was revealed that the attitude of the Soviet leadership towards religion changed during the study period, which was due to the socio-political situation in the country. With the beginning of the establishment of the Bolshevik regime, preference was given to power methods of struggle with the church. However, with the introduction of NEP and the policy of «indigenousization», the government begins to liberalize believers to a certain extent and prefers methods of tax pressure and discrediting the clergy. Since the late 1920s, after a short retreat, there has been a restoration of forceful methods, which in the late 1930s acquire the character of repression against the clergy and believers, closing churches. Based on a significant array of archival materials, the methods by which the anti-religious campaign was carried out in relation to the religious communities of national minorities of Kharkіv are demonstrated. Two main directions can be distinguished. The first was aimed at combating confessional institutions, clergy and church assets through administrative pressure, legal restrictions, economic exploitation, discrediting the clergy, and punitive repressive measures. The second direction included ideological propaganda measures, among which an important place was occupied by anti-religious propaganda through various forms of work of clubs, red corners, and atheists' circles. However, as a result of the implementation of this direction, it was not possible to achieve the desired result - a massive anti-religious movement and the rapid formation of an irreligious society. Religious communities of national minorities in the conditions of forcible atheization of society and repressions against the clergy and believers have demonstrated the ability to survive and oppose ethnic assimilation ;
