The article is devoted to the analysis of the world practice of assessing the quality of life of the elderly population in the context of progressive imperatives of the theory of the social state. It is argued that, among other things, the focus and structure of the priorities of the social state as one, that focused on the implementation of social protection, incentives, social integration, social investment functions and social control functions should be focused on quality of life. In particular, this applies to the elderly population. The quality of life of the elderly is one of the defining indicators of success and achievements in building a modern social state. Based on generalized theoretical and empirical data, the conclusions are drawn about the position of Ukraine's approach to the implementation of the principles of the concept of the social state. This is a priority in accordance with the content of the Constitution of Ukraine. In order to solve certain tasks of the study, the international integrated indices used in the process of determining the quality of life of the elderly are systematized and characterized. The focus is on the socio-demographic characteristics of the target audience, the specifics of scientific and applied tasks, relevant methodological approaches and data sources. The authors present the results of systematization and analysis of the main approaches to assessing the quality of life of the elderly. The perspectives of their adaptation to domestic realities are also specified, taking into account the peculiarities of the national practice of statistical observations. The data published by specialized agencies of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union, and the data from international polls of the Gallup WorldView project are presented and analyzed. The conclusions are made on the need to develop the approaches that will provide an opportunity to compare indicators of quality of life of Ukrainians with similar indicators in other countries. All this substantiates the expediency of improving the domestic practice of statistical observations in order to create an information and diagnostic platform suitable for formulating objective conclusions about the quality of life in Ukraine, the degree of its approximation to the norms and standards of the state of the social type. ; Стаття присвячена аналізу світової практики оцінювання якості життя населення літнього віку у контексті прогресивних імперативів теорії соціальної держави. Аргументовано, що, серед іншого, в центрі уваги та структурі пріоритетів соціальної держави, як такої, що зорієнтована на виконання соціально-захисних, стимулюючих, суспільно-інтегративних, соціально-інвестиційних функцій та функції соціального контролю, має перебувати зосередженість на проблематиці якості життя населення, зокрема прошарку населення літнього віку. Якість життя осіб літнього віку є одним із визначальних індикаторів успіхів та досягнень у розбудові сучасної соціальної держави. Спираючись на узагальнені теоретичні та отримані за результатами проведеного дослідження емпіричні дані, зроблено висновки щодо стану наближення України до реалізації засад концепції соціальної держави, факт пріоритетності чого зафіксовано у Конституції. Задля вирішення визначених завдань дослідження систематизовано та охарактеризовано міжнародні інтегральні індекси, що застосовуються в процесі визначення якості життя осіб літнього віку, зважаючи на соціально-демографічні характеристики цільової аудиторії, специфіку науково-пошукових та прикладних задач, релевантних методичних підходів та джерел отримання даних. Авторами наведено результати систематизації та аналізу основних підходів щодо оцінювання якості життя населення літнього віку, конкретизовано перспективи їх адаптації до вітчизняних реалій, зважаючи на особливості національної практики статистичних спостережень. Наведено та проаналізовано дані, опубліковані спеціалізованими установами Організації Об'єднаних Націй, Всесвітньої організації охорони здоров'я, Світового банку, Організації економічного співробітництва та розвитку, Європейського Союзу, та дані міжнародних соціологічних опитувань проєкту Gallup WorldView. Наголошено на необхідності розроблення підходів, які б забезпечували можливість зіставлення показників якості життя українців з аналогічними показниками інших країн світу, що аргументує доцільність удосконалення вітчизняної практики статистичних спостережень з метою створення інформаційно-діагностичної платформи, придатної для формулювання об'єктивних висновків стосовно якості життя в Україні, а відтак і ступеня її наближення до стандартів та еталонів держави соціального типу.
