A large number of metal mirrors, coins, silk products, and items with varnish coating, made in craft workshops of China were found while examining the funeral complexes of the early medieval Turkic tribes. These findings are considered to be important elements of the material culture of nomads. They represent the military, political, trade, and other contacts of nomads with the population of the southern settled and agricultural centers. The available written certificates do not provide enough information to solve all the complex problems associated with the interpretation of the imported products found in the named archaeological sites. The materials recorded in the course of the excavation work significantly expand the possibilities of reconstructing many aspects of the life-style of nomadic communities as well as reflecting the world outlook of some cattle-farmers groups. The Chinese items are recorded in the sites of Turkic tribes dated to the 2nd half of the 6th century AD, when one of the largest nomadic empires – the First (Great) Turkic khaganate was built up. The table of Medieval Chinese import divided into the categories of findings is presented in the article. Two metal mirrors were examined by means of an X-ray fluorescent spectrometer. The pictures of some items are also shown in the article. The article considers the use of these Chinese products in the rites of the early medieval nomads. There are prospects for further research of the subject as more material becomes available.

The coins discovered in Altai and the South of the Upper Ob region during archaeological excavations of Early Medieval sites are important chronological indicators. They also reflect the results of ethno-cultural and military-political interaction between different groups of the population during this period. The article provides a detailed analysis of two Chinese coins stored in the Biysk Museum of local lore (Altai territory) and originating from the well-known burial mound Srostki-I. In addition to the history of their study, detailed descriptions and comprehensive illustrations are presented for the first time. Based on the current data on the Chinese coins and the results of x-ray fluorescence testing, new grounds for dating the considered products are given. This information is supplemented by a summary of other similar finds from the sites of the territory under consideration. This information indicates the need for further study of numismatic materials that are known in certain regions of North Asia.

; The items of horse equipment, found during archaeological research, are not only important cultural and chronological indicators, but they also contribute to the reconstruction of certain spheres of the lifesupport system of specific nomadic societies. Their study allows us to obtain the necessary information to solve the issues related to the study of the ethno-cultural interaction processes. The appearance and distribution of stirrups was of great importance in the history of the peoples in Eurasia. It was these devices that contributed to the modernization of equestrian riders and influenced military affairs during the early Middle Ages. The article presents in detail a new find of a rare type of iron stirrups that were widely spread in Asia and used during the Turkic conquests. The product was discovered in a pit during archaeological surveys in the village of Staroaleisk in the Tretyakovsky District of the Altai Territory. This is the second find of this type, which comes from the Alei steppe in the zone of the northwestern foothills of the Altai. Both stirrups under study are kept in the Altai Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Altai State University. The article presents datings and some of their analogies.

; On the 9thof February 2016 the famous Barnaul archaeologist Alexander Borisovich Shamshin turned 60. This article summarizes the main stages of his life, and the results of the research and scientific achievements. After the graduation from Altai State University, A.B. Shamshin was left to work in the Laboratory of Archaeology, Ethnography and History of Altai. Then, after his military service, he began to conduct active research and excavations, where he obtained the materials that enabled him to defend his dissertation in 1988. An important contribution to the study of ancient history of the south of Western Siberia is the synthesis of materials on the Late Bronze Age and the transition time from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age. A.B. Shamshin justified the allocation of Korchazhka archaeological culture. The Upper Ob region was regarded as one of the centers of cultural genesis of the Irmen community. In addition to studying the monuments of the Developed and Late Bronze, Alexander Borisovich investigated objects and other periods of history. The most important is his research of the monuments of the Early Iron Age. Of a particular importance among the scientific activities of the jubilee is the discovery and study of the Firsovo archaeological district. The considerable fund of the finds which he obtained is stored in the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Altai in Altai State University. Active teaching activities of A.B. н.э. ; The article publishes a collection of iron arrowheads from the Choburak-I necropolis of the Bulan-Koby culture (the Chemal district of the Altai Republic), the research of which was conducted by the expedition of Altai State University in 2017–2019. As a result of the classification of 45 products, represented by complete and partially destroyed samples, 13 types of arrowheads were identified, supplemented by 23 options. A typological study made it possible to determine the relative chronology of various modifications of the intruders and their possible genesis. Among the longline tips there are samples of the Xiungnu tradition of the 2nd – 5th centuries AD (types 1a, 2a, 4a–b) and the South Siberian tradition of the 3rd – 5th centuries AD (types 1b, 2b, 3a, 4c). Three-bladed arrowheads date from different times: hexagonal without emphasis (type 8a) – the 2nd century BC – the 5th century AD; asymmetric rhombic and rhombic without emphasis (types 6a, 7a) – the 2nd – the 5th centuries AD; asymmetric rhombic, rhombic, hexagonal with an annular emphasis (types 6b, 7b, 8b) – the 3rd –the 5th centuries AD. Trihedral-three-lobed tips of type 10a are the result of a combination of local and Central Asian (Kenkol) military traditions. Armor-piercing tips (types 11a–b, 12a–b, 13a) demonstrate the familiarity of the population of the Northern Altai with advanced means of defeating protective armor, which was widely used in Central Asia from the 2nd half of the 4th century AD influenced by the late Xianbi weapons complex. Published materials expand the source base for a comparative study of the long-range battle weapons of the peoples of eastern Eurasia in the middle of the 1st millennium AD.
