THE NAMES OF WEDDING PARTICIPANTS IN BOYKO DIALECTS: NAMES OF MEN ; ВЕСІЛЬНІ АГЕНТИВИ В БОЙКІВСЬКИХ ГОВІРКАХ: НАЗВИ ЧОЛОВІКІВ
The lexical-semantic group analysis of the men's names – the members of the wedding – covers the agentives of the Boyko wedding traditions. The research was conducted on the basis of material collected in a field method and was adjusted from regional, lexicographical, folklore and ethnographical sources. The author pays attention to the regional peculiarities of the names of the wedding ceremony participants and their state of preservation under the influence of the literary language and tendency to unify the ritual vocabulary. The nomination figures are differentiated depending on the age, marital status, family ties concerning brides, their functions within the limits of semantic sub-groups: 'married men – members of the wedding (they belong to a parents generation of the bride by their age)'; 'unmarried men – members of the wedding (bride's peers)'; 'male participants, not regulated by age and marital status'. The wedding recordings of the texts and available lexicographical, ethnographical, folklore material which was collected in a field method gives us the reasons to isolate the main and peripheral men who are involved in the wedding event. The main participants "are served" the whole ceremony: in particular stárosta pays ransom for the weaved wreaths made with periwinkles, exlaims "proshchi" on behalf of brides etc.; druzba removes the wedding tree, produce wedding flag, baptizes the thresholds and others with hatchets etc. In contrast, the socalled peripheral participants perform any function – to carry "korovaj" to church (pidkorovajnyk), they are responsible for food and alcohol (cepnar) and others storage. At some stages of the wedding rituals all the wishing men are involved (without age limits or maritual status). The names of participants in Boiko dialects which were revealed indicate at hierarch of ranks depending on the importance of the duties performed (starshyj druzba, pershyj druzba). Among the married men –participants of the ceremony – the most important part plays the person who asks bride in marriage and afterwads usualy becomes starostoyu, – the main wedding distributor. The names of male-witnesses form semantic microgroups: 'unmarried groom's guests' (bojaryn, druzba), 'unmarried bride's guests' (zasjad'ko). Among the participants of the wedding ceremony we can observe a clear leader's division as a belonging to a certain wedding side and also wedding officials who act collectively in the ceremony, paired members. Despite the fact that the father, godfather and the closest relatives of the family are involved in the wedding ceremony we do not reveal special nominations: bat'ko, tato, brat, stryk, vujko, djad'ko, nanashko and others. A wedding vocabulary of Boiko dialects shows imagery and metaphors of male participants nominations (torgashi, rubachi, panjanskyi voyovoda); the expressive labeled names such as (starostochko, druzbon'ka, bujaron'ky and others ) were found in the wedding songs. The functioning of specific dialect formations typical to Boiko dialects were shown. The following typical models of motivation were highlighted: 'action' > 'ceremonial participant'; 'material element of ritual > 'ceremonial participant', 'place' > 'ceremonial participant'; 'rank' > 'ceremonial participant'. The analysis of men's names – the members of the wedding ceremony – leads to the following conclusions: some of the names of participants stay in the periphery of ritual vocabulary; the connection with other lexical layers and thematic groups: with a military vocabulary, administrative, trading , family. Some of the names of wedding participants are linguistically unsteady. The names with the ritual meanings illustrate the dynamics of derivational opportunities. The activation of derivational opportunities of borrowings is marked.
