Innocent Victim" of the Crimean War (1853–1856): History of Spanish Consul F. Baquer y Ribas
MAEC-AECI ; On the basis of still unpublished archival materials, the aspects of life of the Spanish Consul in Odesa Francisco Baquer y Ribas in the 1855–1863 years are described in this article. During the war his estate in the Crimea near Kerch, was robbed and destroyed by Turkish, Russian and English troops in turn; total losses amounted to more than 250 thousand rubles. For the compensation of damages the consul had to resort to active diplomatic correspondence and with the help of Spanish government he successfully applied for the compensation of losses to the Governments of the Russian, Ottoman and British empires. The study of the materials of this correspondence and publication of certain letters allow us to look at the history of the Crimean War (1853–1856) and its consequences from the perspective of the individual, his or her own microhistory.
