Most of the under developed countries suffer from low level of income and capital accumulation. Though, despite this shortage of investment, these countries have developed a strong urge for industrialization and economic development. As we know the need for Foreign capital arises due to shortage from domestic side and other reasons. Indian economy has experienced the problem of capital in many instances. While planning to start the steel companies under government control, due to shortage of resources it has taken the aid of foreign countries. Likewise we have received aid from Russia, Britain and Germany for establishing Bhiloy, Rourkela and Durgapur steel plants. The present paper is a modest attempt to study the trends in Foreign Institutional Investment into India. It is observed that the FIIs investment has shown significant improvement in the liquidity of stock prices of both BSE and NSE. However, there is a high degree of positive co-efficient of correlation between FIIs investment and market capitalization, FIIs investment and BSE NSE indices, revealing that the liquidity and volatility was highly influenced by FIIs flows. Further, it is also proved that FIIs investment was a significant factor for high liquidity and volatility in the capital market prices. The present study is a modest attempt to know the status of FIIs in Indian capital market.

This study examine the connections between foreign direct investment and economic growth using sample data covering the period of 1971 to 2013 on the Nigerian and South African economies by employing the Johansen Co-integration and Vector Error Correction (VECM) as estimation techniques. The results suggest that FDI is not a strategic driver for growing the economy in both the long and short- terms of the Nigerian economy whereas Openness, labor and physical capital have positive impact. The findings also display that openness does not have any impact on productivity in either the short or long- term periods whereas Foreign Direct Investment, Physical capital and labor have positive influence on growing the economy in the case of the South Africa. As a result of this finding there is need for expanding the labor force and focusing policy on education to promote the standard of human capital as well as physical capital and promote policies that encourage flow of FDI into these economies. AbstractModeling dispersion of aircraft emissions is challenging because aircraft are mobile sources with varying emissions rates at different elevations depending on the operating mode. Aircraft emissions during landing and take-off cycle (LTO) influence air quality in and around the airport, and depending on the number of aircraft operations and location of the airport, this influence may be significant. AERMOD (v22112) incorporates a variety of conventional source types to characterize the intended emissions source, leaving the question of which conventional source type(s) best characterizes aircraft activities across the four modes of LTO cycle, unanswered. Currently, the publicly released version of FAA's Aviation Environmental Design Tool (version 3e) models aircraft emissions as a set of AREA sources for all flight segments. A research version of AEDT allows users to model aircraft sources—both fixed wing and rotorcraft—as a series of VOLUME sources in AERMOD. However, both source treatments do not account for plume rise of aircraft jet exhaust. This paper compares AERMOD's performance in describing SO2 concentrations associated with airport sources by comparing model results from the two source options during the summer campaign of the Air Quality Source Apportionment study conducted at the Los Angeles International Airport. We conclude that both VOLUME source and AREA treatments overestimate the highest observed SO2 concentrations despite not accounting for background sources. The VOLUME source option reduces this overestimation by using a higher initial plume spread than the AREA option does, and through the inclusion of meander. Our results suggest the need to include the plume rise of jet exhaust when using AERMOD for airport air quality studies.

AbstractAir pollution associated with vehicle emissions from roadways has been linked to a variety of adverse health effects. Wind tunnel and tracer studies show that noise barriers mitigate the impact of this pollution up to distances of 30 times the barrier height. Data from these studies have been used to formulate dispersion models that account for this mitigating effect. Before these models can be incorporated into Federal and State regulations, it is necessary to demonstrate their applicability under real-world conditions. This paper describes a comprehensive field study conducted in Riverside, CA, in 2019 to collect the data required to evaluate the performance of these models. Eight vehicles fitted with SF6 tracer release systems were driven in a loop on a 2-km stretch of Interstate 215 that had a 5-m tall noise barrier on the downwind side. The tracer, SF6, was sampled at over 40 locations at distances ranging from 5 to 200 m from the barrier. Meteorological data were measured with several 3-D sonic anemometers located upwind and downwind of the highway. The data set, corresponding to 10 h collected over 4 days, consists of information on emissions, tracer concentrations, and micrometeorological variables that can be used to evaluate barrier effects in dispersion models. An analysis of the data using a dispersion model indicates that current models are likely to overestimate concentrations, or underestimate the mitigation from barriers, at low wind speeds. We suggest an approach to correct this problem.

The process of initiating and operationalizing a concept-combining multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to improve educational and employment opportunities for women-is outlined in this document. The result of this endeavor is a fully functioning ICT Women's Center in Telangana State, India, powered by solar energy, where skills trainings offered in the areas of computer, English, life skills and environment, aim to prepare young women for future careers and job opportunities. The document outlines various components that were required to begin operationalizing the Center, from infrastructural inputs to curriculum design and delivery. Initial months of operation revealed the high demand for the skills training provided through the Center, and as a result, continuous updates to the Center operations and programs are explored to accommodate the needs of newly interest participants as well as to continuously build upon initial training. The initial months also shed light on the importance of: active involvement of local leadership at each stage of project development; engagement of local district government leadership and offices (rural development office, public health initiatives); establishment of relationship with local educational institutions; and collaboration and enthusiasm of all parties involved in setting up the Center. The components outlined in the document will continue to develop as the operations moves forward. Particularly, continued efforts will take the forms of: monitoring energy production and consumption at the Center; partnerships strengthened with local educational institutions as well as target populations for computer skills training; engagement with local employers and input from local professionals as mentors and speakers on curriculum contents; building additional support for participants through advancing curriculum contents and related activities, based on participant feedback and course evaluations.

Purpose
Customer knowledge from social media can become an important organizational asset. The purpose of this paper is to identify useful customer knowledge including knowledge for customer, knowledge about customers and knowledge from customers from social media data and facilitate social media-based customer knowledge management.


Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a case study to analyze people's online discussion on Twitter regarding laptop brands and manufacturers. After collecting relevant tweets using Twitter search APIs, the authors applied statistical analysis, text mining and sentiment analysis techniques to analyze the social media data set and visualize relevant insights and patterns in order to identify customer knowledge.


Findings
The paper identifies useful insights and knowledge from customers and knowledge about customers from social media data. Furthermore, the paper shows how the authors can use knowledge from customers and knowledge about customers to help companies develop knowledge for customers.


Originality/value
This is an original social media analytics study that discusses how to transform large-scale social media data into useful customer knowledge including knowledge for customer, knowledge about customers and knowledge from customers.

CONTEXT: Periodontitis is a highly prevalent oral disease affecting a wide range of people across all age groups and genders. It is the major cause of loss of teeth among all other oral diseases affecting the people. AIMS: The current study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of different forms of periodontitis in patients visiting Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad, over a period of 10 years. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Retrospective study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective analysis was put into execution to evaluate the prevalence of periodontal diseases in 74,414 patients referred to the Department of Periodontics in Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad, from January 2007 to December 2016. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: Descriptive analysis, Chi-square test. RESULTS: Out of the 74,414 patients who were screened, 38,898 were male and 35,516 were female. A total of 67,236 patients (90.35%) had chronic periodontitis and 7178 (9.64%) had aggressive periodontitis. The most commonly found type was chronic localized periodontitis. CONCLUSION: The results of this study have helped to ascertain the various forms of periodontitis in the population of Hyderabad. This can serve as a basis for future studies with the idea of finding ways to ameliorate oral health in this population.

Using a hybrid method of cathodic arc (PVD) and chemical (CVD) deposition from the gas phase, a new type of coatings containing high amount of sp3 bonds of carbon, capable of absorbing effectively light has been developed.This thin film material is a promised one for optical devices operating in open space environment as antireflective coating for photoreceiver bodies. The hybrid method permits to obtain effective light absorbing coatings having excellent mechanical and tribological properties and is able to sustain temperature cycling in a range from plus 150 to minus 100 oC. The optical characteristics of DLC coatings were studied depending on the content of sp2bound content. The combined physical and chemical deposition of DLC coatings allows to achieve a sufficiently high light absorption (a~10 5 cm–1) and low reflection with a relatively small coating thickness about 1 mm.
