Female leadership and ESG performance of firms: Nordic evidence
In: Corporate governance: international journal of business in society
ISSN: 1758-6054
Purpose
This paper aims to focus on the relationship between female leadership and the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of firms. Specifically, the study examines if firms with women as chief executive officers (CEOs) and/or board chairpersons have higher environmental and social scores.
Design/methodology/approach
The study uses data on publicly listed Nordic firms in a panel regression approach to establish the relationship between female leadership and the environmental and social performance of firms.
Findings
The result of this study shows that women have a leadership characteristic that increases the weighted average of environmental (E) and social (S) performance of a firm. In particular, pillar score results indicate a positive relationship between female CEOs and the social scores of a firm but no relationship between a female board chairperson and the environmental or social scores of a firm. This implies that gender-based differences affect the CEO's success, especially in a firm's social performance. Further analyses show a more significant impact on the E and S performance when a woman replaces a man as CEO of a firm.
Originality/value
While prior research has explored various aspects of gender diversity in corporate leadership and its potential impact, the focus on the Nordic context in this study provides a unique perspective, given the region's distinct business environment and societal factors. In addition, by examining the collective influence of female leaders and both female CEOs and board chairpersons separately, this study provides a nuanced understanding of how different leadership roles may impact a firm's ESG performance.

A Literature Review of Community Art Therapy with Youth in Inner City Communities of Color
This literature review was developed to synthesize the research surrounding community-based art therapy with youth who reside in inner city communities of color. Youth of color in inner city communities face a number of different challenges such as low socioeconomic status, social inequality, discrimination, and lack of political representation. There is currently little research on the impact of art therapy and expressive arts interventions with this population, however; these interventions have shown to be effective in a number of different areas. Literature revealed that community-based art therapy with inner city youth of color has shown to increase self-esteem, decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression, and improve communication and community relationships. The aim of this research is to use the findings from the literature to improve awareness about community-based art therapy with this population with the intention that more research and interventions will be conducted in the future.

Relation between Organisational Citizenship Behavior, Workplace Spirituality and Job Performance in BFSI sector in India
In: Problems & perspectives in management, Band 17, Heft 1, S. 176-188
ISSN: 1810-5467
Companies across the world are struggling to keep the employees engaged and retained to their work. Moreover, today's workforce is increasingly seeking intrinsic benefits beyond the material rewards of a job. In this context, this study aims to assess the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), workplace spirituality (WS) and job performance (JP) in a non-Western setting where primary quantitative research was conducted in an Indian setting. The sector under study was Banking, Finance, and Insurance Services (BFSI), given retention issues since the financial crisis of 2008. A statistically evaluated sample of 433 respondents was utilized to attain the findings. Results revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between OCB, WS and JP that was achieved through regression analysis. However, findings also showed that OCB is not a moderator between WS and JP. The gap in the research was addressed given the lack of studies determining the impact of OCB on individual job performance. Further, the impact was positively highlighted in the Indian context. The implications to the BFSI sector were made that required companies to promote a culture for voluntary work practices to enhance JP.
Aestheticism vs. Philosophy: A Reading of Kumaran Ashan's The Fallen Flower
Kumaranashan is one of the most popular figures in Malayalam Literature. He was a champion of the underprivileged and a great visionary. He gave a new direction to the classically structured Malayalam poetry through his exposure to English Bangali and other streams of literature. He also played a pivotal role in introducing the spirit of modernity, revivalism and renaissance in Malayalam literature. Ashan"s works are widely translated into many languages and many of them are relevant and universally significant even today. The present paper is an attempt to read Ashan"s The Fallen flower; one of his most creative and thematically challenging works. While, the symbol of flowers is mostly used by poets of various generations to deliberate upon different shades of the concept of beauty, Ashan here uses the symbol of fallen flower to dwell upon the evanescent nature of human life and to create a strong moral vision in his readers. Though Ashan is widely studied and discussed in Malayalam, an analysis of the present kind attains great significance in English, especially in the present context of postcolonial exchanges and universal appreciation. The researcher uses available critical materials and translations to analyse, the philosophical, technical, social and political relevance of the work.
