Political decentralization and urban policy in Italy: from 'state-centered' to 'state--society' explanation
In: Policy studies journal: an international journal of public policy, Band 18, Heft Spring 90
ISSN: 0190-292X
Examines why in an era of national 'corporatism' and the 'welfare state' there has been a vigorous attempt at decentralisation of government functions. Suggests that the introduction of the regional form of political decentralisation since 1970 is best viewed as a response to localised social and economic change in the context of a unque political--geographical inheritance. Symposium on political centralizationa and decentralization in Europe and North America: sources of change and implications for public policies
In: Policy studies journal: an international journal of public policy, Band 18, Heft Spring 90
ISSN: 0190-292X
Introduces 6 articles concerned with the sources of trends of centralisation/decentralisation and, to a lesser degree, with their implications for the design and implementation of public policies. (SJK)

GEOPOLITICS AND DISCOURSE: PRACTICAL GEOPOLITICAL REASONING IN AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY
In: POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY QUARTERLY, Band 11, Heft 2, S. 190-204
THIS PAPER ARGUES FOR THE RE-CONCEPTUALIZATION OF GEOPOLITICS USING THE CONCEPT OF DISCOURSE. FOUR THESES EXPLICATING RE-CONCEPTUALIZATION ARE OUTLINED INCLUDING THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN FORMAL AND PRACTICAL GEOPOLITICS. THESE ARGUMENTS ARE ILLUSTRATED BY A GENERAL DISCUSSION OF PRACTICAL GEOPOLITICAL REASONING IN U.S. FOREIGN POLICY. GEOPOLITICAL REASONING, IT IS CONCLUDED, IRONICALLY WORKS BY BEING ANTI-GEOPOLITICAL.

Sloan Foundation (United States of America) ; European Union community Marie Curie Fellowship ; European Union community Marie Curie Fellowship: 302103 ; Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced in the process p (p) over bar -> l(+)l(-) + X through an intermediate gamma*/Z boson have an asymmetry in their angular distribution related to the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the electroweak force and the associated mixing of its neutral gauge bosons. The CDF and D0 experiments have measured the effective-leptonic electroweak mixing parameter sin(2) theta(lept)(eff) using electron and muon pairs selected from the full Tevatron proton-antiproton data sets collected in 2001-2011, corresponding to 9-10 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The combination of these measurements yields the most precise result from hadron colliders, sin(2)theta(lept)(eff) = 0.23148 +/- 0.00033. This result is consistent with, and approaches in precision, the best measurements from electron-positron colliders. The standard model inference of the on-shell electroweak mixing parameter sin(2) theta(W), or equivalently the W-boson mass M-W, using the ZFITTER software package yields sin(2) theta(W) = 0.22324 +/- 0.00033 or equivalently, M-W = 80.367 +/- 0.017 GeV/c(2).
