Feel at Home. Vietnamese Immigrants in Poland
In: Space and Culture, Band 25, Heft 1, S. 90-104
ISSN: 1552-8308
In this paper, we develop the concept of home, presenting an example of Vietnamese entrepreneurs running their business in Poland. This subject is peculiar to the perspective of immigrants, who have already left their home country and need to establish themselves in a new place. We base our study on material gathered from four sources: a broad ethnographic study, non-participant and direct observation of Vietnamese places in Poland, photographs taken in Poland and Vietnam, and interviews. We argue that the concept of home is extremely broad and is represented by immigrants in diverse ways. After our analysis, we propose a deeper understanding of the activities of immigrants and their ways of acculturation.

In: Space – Society – Economy, Heft 24, S. 91-104
ISSN: 2451-3547

Symptom clusters in obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD): influence of age and age of onset
In: European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Band 19, Heft 4, S. 365-370
Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is an ailment of heterogeneous nature. It is believed that the age of onset determines the subtype of juvenile OCD. The objective of our study was to evaluate the rates of symptoms' contents and the age of manifestation of the various OCD symptoms in adolescents and adults with early and late onset of disorder. Both authors independently reviewed the medical charts of patients treated for OCD between 1999 and 2007 in a psychiatric university hospital. Patients were evaluated using the Yale–Brown obsessive–compulsive scale check list (Y-BOCS). The patients were grouped as adolescents (group 1), adults with late onset (group 2) and adults with early onset (group 3). Chi2 was used for nominal variables and the non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis ANOVA for continuous comparisons due to deviations from normality of distribution. A total of 132 patients were enrolled in the study (44 group 1, 43 group 2 and 45 group 3). There were no differences in gender distribution. Religious, sexual and miscellaneous obsessions were more frequent and somatic less frequent in group 1 than in group 2. Contamination compulsions were most seldom found in group 1. Cleaning obsessions were more frequent in group 3 than in group 1. Checking were the rarest and miscellaneous, the most often compulsion among adolescents in comparison to other groups. The symptoms' content in adolescents differed from those observed in adult, both with early and later onset of the disease. The age at onset influences the rates of adult patients' compulsions.

Choć w literaturze przedmiotu brak jednoznacznego i uniwersalnego modelu kluczowych kompetencji społecznych, to jedna z nich — umiejętność wywierania wpływu znacząco determinuje relacje służbowe.
In: Resocjalizacja Polska: Polish journal of social rehabilitation, Heft 21
ISSN: 2392-2656
Multifaceted Aspects of Economic Corridors in the Context of Regional Security: The China–Pakistan Economic Corridor as a Stabilising and Destabilising Factor
In: Journal of Asian security and international affairs: JASIA, Band 8, Heft 2, S. 218-248
ISSN: 2349-0039
This article investigates the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which involves a whole package of multiple cooperative initiatives aimed to accelerate connectivity via land routes and boost Sino-Pakistani collaboration. While channelling Chinese power and interests, this corridor, being a key part of the Belt and Road Initiative, may significantly affect the security landscape in conflict-prone South Asia, and the economic, political and social dynamics within Pakistan. Being a fragile state with multiple domestic challenges and asymmetric position vis-à-vis China, Pakistan is a valuable source for regional power game and China's aspiration analysis. The comprehensive evaluation of economic corridors' multidimensional impact on volatile regions with poor socio-economic background, contested political power and high-security risk fills a much-needed gap in contemporary security studies. We contend that CPEC may bring stabilising and destabilising results; yet, if certain conditions are not met, over the long term, the latter are likely to outweigh the former due to the various aspects of internal, bilateral and regional character. To evaluate the corridor's multifaceted implications, firstly, we conceptualise CPEC within the selected international relations paradigms, and secondly, we empirically refer to our assumptions.
