Nanochemistry is a significant area which involves the synthesis, design, and manipulation of particle structures with dimensions ranging from 1 to 100 nanometres. It is now one of the major concerns of pharmaceutical and biological researchers. The current study discusses recent advances in the use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a selective sensor for qualitative and colorimetric quantitative detection of mercury ions. The synthesis of significant noble metal AgNPs is described as a novel, low-cost, quick, and simple method for detecting mercury ions. Due to the seriousness of mercury toxicity to our cells, AgNPs may be successfully employed for the detection of ecologically harmful mercury ions in a wide variety of aqueous practical samples using a colorimetric approach. As a result, as provided in this review with extensive details regarding this analytical approach, it might be utilized to monitor mercury ions via AgNPs in a variety of practical samples.

Structuring Special Economic Zones (SEZs) under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an insightful initiative for a fast-track industrial development and to bolster the stagnated economy of Pakistan. Implementing effective SEZs is possible by an approach of replicating the success stories and learning lessons from the failure causes of SEZs around the globe. This paper focuses on a conscientious political economy framework in terms of policy making, planning and strategy, regulatory scheme, administrative and management structure which is prerequisite for a successful functioning of SEZs in Pakistan. The literature reveals that transparency in the components of political institutions and consistency of good governance is obligatory to move ahead on the avenue of success whereas flaws in governance structure can provide grounds to obstruct SEZs development and prevent replication of best practices, as example of African SEZs is evident in this case. To analyze and attain appropriate findings a recent technique, Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL) has been employed which captures the long-run and short-run relationships between the variable of interests. Figuring out the prior and prevailing performance of political institutions in Pakistan and answering the question 'what Pakistan can grasp from the root causes behind the failure of African SEZs' is crucial so that appropriate policies can be designed to overcome the challenges in flourishing the SEZs under CPEC.

The Brain Drain (BD) is a cynosure of all the eyes because it has become a grave issue for Pakistan. Every year, thousands of students graduate from colleges and universities. Our markets cannot accommodate such a huge number of graduates so; these people prefer to migrate to other parts of the world. This paper attempts to investigate the factors affecting brain drain in Pakistan by utilizing the data for 1990 to 2018. Indices of variables are constructed in this study to measure the potential of factors causing migration from Pakistan to other developed economies. Secondary data has been taken from the World Development Indicator (WDI) and the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE). This study finds that in long run governance, financial stability, the standard of living, and infrastructure have a negative and significant impact on the dependent variable (Brain drain). Social openness does not show a significant impact on brain drain in the long run. This study concludes that brain drain in developing nations is a serious matter and it should be addressed on a priority basis. This study helps policymakers to develop policies to reduce the migration of highly skilled labour.

This paper aims to assess the impact of fiscal policy on the economic stability within Pakistan. The findings indicate that the fiscal policy process constitutes the subsequent impact on the GDP, FDI, discount rate and CPI. That is to say, the corresponding expansionary and contractionary fiscal process has a direct and significant impact on the overall productivity, the foreign investment, the interest rates and the inflation process of the state. However, in comparison to these three variables, the exchange rate has an indirect impact and is lesser significant as compared to the other variables. The findings help stakeholders to understand how the overall fiscal policy affects the economic and business cycle of the country and how each individual is affected by the decisions made by the government executives in constituting the fiscal policy.

This paper aims to analyze the efficient stock market hypothesis as responsive to American Presidential Election, 2016. The meta-analysis has been done combining content analysis and event study methodology. The all major newspapers, news channels, public polls, literature and five important indices as Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), NASDAQ Stock Market Composit Indexe (NASDAQ-COMP), Standard & Poor's 500 Index (SPX-500), New York Stock Exchange Composite Index (NYSE-COMP) and Other U.S Indexes-Russell 2000 (RUT-2000) are critically examined and empirically analyzed. The findings from content analysis reflect that stunned winning of Mr Trump from Republican Party worked as shock for American stock market. From event study, findings confirmed that all the major indices reflected a decline on winning of Trump and losing of Ms. Clinton from Democratic. The results are supported empirically and practically through the political event like BREXIT that resulted in shock to Global stock index and loss of $2 Trillion.

The study aims to analyze the mediating role of environmental degradation in the association between energy consumption and poverty in South Asian countries. Data have been collected from the global economy and World Bank ranging from 1985-2018 on modeled variables energy consumption, poverty, environmental degradation, globalization, and population. This study utilized fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) and dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) methods for analyzing long-run relationships among the modeled variables. The study utilized the Sobel test and VAF to confirm the mediation. The results indicate a negative and significant impact of energy consumption on poverty. The findings revealed that environmental degradation partially mediates between energy consumption and poverty in the long run. The study recommends that the government of South Asian Countries ensure the availability of cheap and accessible energy for citizens to lower poverty and environmental degradation in South Asian countries.

This report explores issues of media policy during post-election violence. We examine the case of Kenya, where 1,133 people were killed after the 2007 elections, to distill lessons for Somaliland's upcoming elections. There are indications the elections in Somaliland will be highly contentious and that the media will have an important role in either exacerbating or alleviating political violence. Indeed this has already been the case. The much-anticipated presidential election has been postponed for over a year and escalating tensions between the government, opposition parties and the population suggest real potential for election-related violence.The media has emerged as a major player in mediating the current political impasse over election registration. And at the same time there have been concerns from both the opposition and government that respectively aligned media are provoking current tensions. The intended audience for this report is journalists and policymakers in Somaliland as well as concerned international observers. We also expect that the issues drawn out here will be relevant for other countries in the region that are grappling with upcoming elections that have the potential of being highly contentious. This report makes a number of recommendations for media policies. Depending on when the election will be held, we recognize that it is unrealistic for these to be implemented prior to voting day but we believe it is important, especially in the interest of developing sound institutions, to discuss the issues and debate potential scenarios and interventions. This study is part of a larger project on media and information flows in Somaliland. We have conducted extensive research and organized the drafting of a code of conduct for journalists for the election period and legislation for the allocation of broadcasting time for the state media. From our experience, one of the most valuable outcomes of this effort is an inclusive discussion with stakeholders, and the negotiation of values and priorities during this process.
