Alexander critiques "Closing the Gaps?" by John Gould. In his article, Gould proposes that ratios, not mathematical differences, be used to determine the breadth of the gap existing between the Maori & other ethnic groups in New Zealand. Alexander asserts that while ratios are appropriate measures of some data, they are not useful in every situation. He gives an example of the inappropriate use of ratios & reminds the reader of the importance of using statistics responsibly. 2 Tables. G. Gifford
