The notion of generation is a contested area. It has been used to denote cohort succession, age groups, kinship and historical period. This article will consider the concept of 'generation' through the lens of ethnic and cultural diversity. A main aim is to highlight the complex contradictions evident within the lived experience of generation for minority ethnic families and communities.

Abstract
Bhopal in central India has a unique history as a city ruled by a dynasty of four successive Muslim women rulers (1819–1926). Yet, in Bhopal city today, they are rarely commemorated or even remembered. This article documents an initial study undertaken by an interdisciplinary academic team (including a historian, a sociologist and an applied education researcher) in collaboration with local women's organization Mahashakti Seva Kendra. The project explores how the inspirational life stories of the Begums of Bhopal can be recovered to empower contemporary women, revealing the immediate impact and future potential of local history for women's learning and gender empowerment.

Abstract: Working with community or peer interviewers can provide valuable access to the lived experiences of individuals and communities who researchers are unlikely to reach. However, the ethical and methodological issues involved in working with community interviewers has received relatively little attention in social and cultural geographical research. In this paper, we reflect upon our work with community interviewers in qualitative research about the sexual relationship practices of young British Pakistani Muslims. We outline the training we offered to them and consider several ethical and methodological issues including issues of power and positionality, the politics or remuneration, providing feedback to community interviewers, issues of mental health and wellbeing, and addressing expectations and community relationships. We explore the benefits of working with community interviewers whilst also highlighting the ethical and political challenges associated with such work.
