This work is related to the investigation of the effects of porous silicon (PSi) morphologies on the performance of plasmonic gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) hot spot SERS sensors for the detection of amoxicillin molecules. Two Si wafers with different resistivity values of 10 and 100 Ω.cm were used to synthesize a PSi layer of pores- and mud-like structures, respectively, by pulsed photo chemical etching process. The hot spot SERS sensors were synthesized by incorporating the Au-NPs within the PSi morphologies of pores- and mud- like structures which are characterized by high density of nucleation sites. Plasmonic Au- NPs with different sizes and hot spot regions were incorporated into the porous structures by the ion reduction process. It was recognized that the PSi morphologies have a considerable influence on the fabrication process of the detection sensors and, consequently, on the detection process. The plasmonic Au-NPs hot spot SERS sensor based on the PSi morphology of the mud-like structures shows higher sensitivity than that of pores-like structures, even at very low concentrations of amoxicillin solutions.

In this paper, an inexpensive, simple and well-accurate process of the generation of bimetallic silver Ag//gold Au core//shell is colloidal metal nanoparticles (MNPs). This is achieved via an atmospheric pressure non-thermal plasma glow discharge between two electrodes. One of these electrodes is a capillary tube placing over solution about (1 cm) that acts as the cathode, while the other electrode is a metal disk immersed in the solution and acts as an anode. Glow discharge process carried out at room temperature using a home-made cell with (6 KV) applied voltage and direct current (DC) about (1.8 mA) for different discharge periods. A wide range of bimetallic Ag//Au colloidal MNPs was rapidly synthesized as a result of non-thermal plasma formation between a capillary tube and the surface of AgNO3 solution for (5 min) and a mixture of AgNPs-HAuCl4 solution for (5, 10 and 15 min). Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction were used to investigate the structural properties of the bimetallic Ag//Au colloidal MNPs. While optical properties were investigated using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Results show that the discharge time plays a crucial role in modifying the bimetallic nanoparticles properties such as grain size, surface area, and optical stability. Moreover, TEM and FE-SEM confirm the formation of Ag//Au core//shell structure with uniform sizes and shapes.

The influence of different types of plasmonic gold (Au-NPs) and silver (Ag-NPs) nanoparticles as well as aging on the performance of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) sensors were studied. The average diameters of Au-NPs and Ag-NPs were about 23 nm and 15 nm, respectively, with a number of laser pulses of about 200. plasmonic nanoparticles were synthesized by laser ablation process in distilled water using a fixed energy laser fluence of about 14 J/cm2 of Nd-YAG laser, with 1060 nm wavelength and 1 Hz pulse repetition rate. The SERS sensor was carried out by quick drop casting process of plasmonicplasmonic nanoparticles on glass substrates. The morphological aspects and the performance of SERS sensors were investigated by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and Raman spectroscopy. All the results indicated the significant dependence of the performance of the sensor on the types of the plasmonic nanoparticles . The obtained Raman signal intensity of Ag-NPs was about 105a.u. compared with 103a.u. for Au-NPs. While, the stability of Au-NPs was much higher than that of Ag-NPs based on SERS sensors due to the normal oxidation process of Ag-NPs.
