Essays on the political economy of Ghana
This book contains a number of essays describing and analysing the structure and performance of the Ghana economy in the colonial and post-colonial periods. The contributions that successive administrations have made (or failed to make) are discussed in five essays: (1) Economic planning in Ghana (from Guggisberg to structural adjustment); (2) The role of indigenous enterprise in Ghana's development; (3) Exchange rate developments in Ghana; (4) Ghana's external debt problem; (5) State enterprises - their privatisation of divestiture. In the final essay (entitled "An economic policy for Ghana") the authors examine and recommend a number of policy prescriptions for implementation by the policy makers during the last decade of this century, and beyond
