The United States and military coups in Turkey and Pakistan: between conspiracy and reality
This comparative study explores the involvement of the United States in four successful military coups in Turkey and Pakistan during the Cold War. Focusing on military-to-military relations with the US in each country, the book offers insight into how external actors can impact the outcomes of coups, particularly through socialization via military training, education, and international organizations such as NATO. Drawing upon recently declassified government documents and a trove of unexplored interviews with high-ranking officials, Ömer Aslan also examines how coup plotters in both countries approached the issue of US reaction before, during, and after their coups. As armed forces have continued to make and unmake Turkish and Pakistani governments well into the twenty-first century, this volume offers original, probing analysis of the circumstances which make coups possible.--
The Evolution of Turkey's 'South Asia Policy': Continuities and Ruptures in Outlook, Roles, Actors and Constraints
In: Journal of Asian security and international affairs: JASIA, Band 9, Heft 1, S. 122-149
ISSN: 2349-0039
Turkey's South Asia policy remains an underexplored area of research in Turkish foreign policy literature despite a rich history of Turkish activism in the region. While bringing to surface Turkey's perception of South Asia, this article utilises insights from foreign policy analysis literature to make sense of international and domestic drivers behind Turkey's South Asia policies during and after the Cold War. Using primary resources drawn from Turkish, American, Indian and Australian archives, memoirs by retired Turkish generals and diplomats, and interviews the author conducted with retired Turkish diplomats serving previously as ambassadors to New Delhi and Islamabad, the article argues that Turkey has felt most motivated to be involved in the region when encouraged by and had the ability to coordinate its policies with its western partners. I highlight Turkey's mediation missions in inter- and intra-state disputes in the region, attempts to shift its South Asia policy and discuss Turkey's approach to various hot conflicts within and between states in the region. I finally provide the place of South Asia in Turkey's recent 'Asia Anew Initiative' and seek to explain an actor-based evolution of Turkey's South Asia policy under the AKP governments over the last two decades.

Mitigating Cyber Security Attacks by being Aware of Vulnerabilities and Bugs
Because the Internet makes human lives easier, many devices are connected to the Internet daily. The private data of individuals and large companies, including health-related data, user bank accounts, and military and manufacturing data, are increasingly accessible via the Internet. Because almost all data is now accessible through the Internet, protecting these valuable assets has become a major concern. The goal of cyber security is to protect such assets from unauthorized use. Attackers use automated tools and manual techniques to penetrate systems by exploiting existing vulnerabilities and software bugs. To provide good enough security; attack methodologies, vulnerability concepts and defence strategies should be thoroughly investigated. The main purpose of this study is to show that the patches released for existing vulnerabilities at the operating system (OS) level and in software programs does not completely prevent cyber-attack. Instead, producing specific patches for each company and fixing software bugs by being aware of the software running on each specific system can provide a better result. This study also demonstrates that firewalls, antivirus software, Windows Defender and other prevention techniques are not sufficient to prevent attacks. Instead, this study examines different aspects of penetration testing to determine vulnerable applications and hosts using the Nmap and Metasploit frameworks. For a test case, a virtualized system is used that includes different versions of Windows and Linux OS.

Örgütsel Bağlılık ve Örgütsel Sinizm İlişkisi: Bir Meta-Analiz Çalışması
In: Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi, Band 23, Heft 1, S. 79-98
ISSN: 2667-8683
