; The battle on the meaning is inseparable from political ideologies. In this paper, therefore, the notion of 'empowering for users' as a common expression in media studies will be evaluated by focusing on various examples selected from new media applications on the scope of the liberal 'media pluralism' and the radical 'media imperialism' theories. As the flagship of the new media, the Internet is acknowledged as the perfect 'marketplace of ideas' in the liberal model, while critical political economists of communication delve into the complexity of cultural industries and the valorisation processes of cultural objects in the new media context. Understanding the use and the role of the media is one of the most complex issues of our time, as they are inextricably intertwined with our everyday lives. However, warning against a positivistic techno-global millenarianism in the light of the multidimensionality of our social world is a must.

This study explores the newly constructed female identities of the Early Republican Era in Türkiye (1923–1945). Through a thematic analysis of three contemporary women's magazines (Aile Dostu, Ev-İş, and Asrın Kadını) it aims to examine how conceptualizations of marriage and family were refashioned in the magazines to fit in the images within the newly constructed domestic ideologies of the state. We argue that the "selfless" subjectivities offered by the magazines point to dialogically constructed narrative identities which are not stable but fluid. The women's magazines of the Era aimed to reconstruct new identities by representing the Republic's ideas and official ideology to its people. Thus, they became one of the tools of social engineering in the way of "transforming the nation" into a "modern," "Westernized" one. Analysing these magazines help us identify the repertoire of subjectivities and narrative identities from which women drew while making sense of their selves during an era of transformation.

Abstract
This study discusses how activist citizen reporters in Turkey, who initiated a brand-new alternative new media practice,
transformed news gathering and writing activities in the process of the Gezi Park Resistance, which erupted in Istanbul in
June 2013. A handful of citizens, outraged by the police violence as well as interested in human rights from a journalistic
perspective chose to create their own make-shift media outlets or to become medium themselves. They gathered and simultaneously
disseminated news and broadcast live on many occasions mostly through social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and
livestream, in the absence of traditional mainstream and/or alternative media. They also contributed to the solidarity of the resistance.
In this context, the theoretical framework of this study is based on concepts such as alternative media, citizen media and citizen
journalism. Likewise, concepts like democracy, citizen and journalism are also re-evaluated from a radical perspective. After theorizing
'Çapulcu Media', a local variant of the Rodriguez's 'citizen media', constructed in the Gezi Resistance by a few activist citizen reporters,
this ethnographic study concentrates on their activities in the field as well as the process of their identity formation based on data
collected from in-depth interviews and continuous attention given to their social media accounts. Finally, this study aims to develop
a critical understanding of a radical variant of citizen journalism in the context of contemporary Occupy movements.
