Bu çalışmada, 1995-2013 dönemi 10 gelişmekte olan ülke için yolsuzluk ve demokrasinin doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar üzerindeki etkisi ampirik olarak sınanmıştır. Çalışmada panel birim kök testleri, panel eşbütünleşme testi, panel FMOLS eşbütünleşme tahmincisi ve panel VEC nedensellik analiz yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada yolsuzluk, demokrasi ve doğrudan yabancı yatırımların uzun dönemde eşbütünleşik olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Eşbütünleşme katsayılarının tahmin sonuçları değerlendirildiğinde paneli oluşturan 10 gelişmekte olan ülke için yolsuzluk düzeyinin azalması ve demokrasi düzeyinin artması doğrudan yabancı yatırımları pozitif yönde etkilemektedir. Nedensellik analizine göre ise kısa dönemde yolsuzluktan doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarına doğru tek yönlü, uzun dönemde ise yolsuzluk ve demokrasiden doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarına doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu bulgular demokrasi ve yolsuzlukların doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğunu yönündeki hipotezleri desteklemektedir. Yabancı yatırımcıların günümüzde ev sahibi ülkedeki politik rejimin güvenilirliğini test ettiği görülmektedir. Ev sahibi ülkelerin, yabancı yatırımcıya yönelik politikalarını gözden geçirmesi önemli bir faktör olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. ; In this paper, the effects of corruption and democracy on foreign direct investments are examined empirically for 10 developing countries over the period 1995-2013. These findings support the hypothesis which argue that democracy and corruption have significant effects on foreign direct investments. Today, it can be seen that foreign investors test the trustworthiness of political regime in host country. Reviewing policies towards foreign investors appears as a substantial factor for host countries.

The recent exacerbation of unemployment crisis in Nigeria stands to be a serious threat to both socio‐economic stability and progress of the country just as the report from the Bureau of Statistics shows that at least over 8.5 million people had no gainful employment at all as at the last quarter of the year 2017. It is on the above premise, that the present study explores the link between trade and unemployment for the case of Nigeria with the intention of exploring how the unemployment crisis has been impacted within the dynamics of the country's trade performance. The empirical evidence shows that the nation's terms of trade were insignificant to unemployment rate, while trade openness and domestic investment, on the other hand, have significant opposing impacts on unemployment in Nigeria over the period of the study. Further breakdowns from the empirical analysis also revealed that the Philips curves proposition is valid within the Nigerian economic context, while the evidences for the validity of Okun's law only exist in the short‐run scenario. Based on the empirical results, we recommend that concerted effort should be geared toward stimulating domestic investment by providing adequate financial and infrastructural facilities that will promote ease of doing business while utmost precautions are taken to ensure that unemployment crisis is not exacerbated when combating inflation in the economy in the wake of dynamic trade relations.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of hazardous alcohol consumption (HAC) according to gender among university students and associated factors.

Methods
This is a cross-sectional study conducted on undergraduate students. We used a stratified sampling technique to represent 26036 students from all grade levels and 11 faculties, and the survey was administered to 2349 undergraduate students. The prevalence of HAC was determined with the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). HAC was defined as getting 8 points or more from the AUDIT. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to examine HAC related factors in both genders.

Results
In this study, 53.2% of the participants were male. The prevalence of HAC in the study group was 13.5% and prevalence of lifetime drinker was 65.3%. In males; those whose fathers [OR = 1.72; 95% CI: (1.17-2.52)], mothers [1.49; (1.02-2.18)], close friends [2.42; (1.28-4.60)] drink alcohol and smoking [3.16; (2.09- 4.77)], use illicit substance [2.35; (1.66-3.34)], have mental health problems [1.65; (1.04-2.62)] were more likely to report HAC. Meanwhile in females, those whose fathers [OR = 1.92; 95%CI: (1.03-3.57)], close friends [5.81; (1.73-19.45)] drink alcohol and smoking [4.33; (2.31-8.15)], use illicit substance [4.34; (2.34-8.06)] have mental health problems [3.01; (1.67-5.43)] were more likely to report HAC.

Conclusions
HAC prevalence is high among university students. The risk of HAC increases with the use of alcohol in family and circle of friends, smoking, illicit substance use and mental health problems. The factors associated with the risk of HAC in both genders are similar.
