The current article explores the integrative dimension of culture within the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) at the European level while fostering cultural stakeholders'
empowerment. As sustainable development is an international priority, the interest in the
significance of the cultural sector to the transformative process towards sustainable
development has risen. The dominant explanation for this trend is given by the cross
cutting dimension of the cultural field and its premises to connect the three pillars of
sustainable development: social, economic and environmental. The article supports this
connection by using data from semi-structured interviews with representatives of ten
organisations active in the cultural field from Belgium, Greece, France, Italy, Poland,
Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Hungary. The research findings show the
relevance of the cultural sector as enabling sustainable development through its
transversal dimension. The results are directed towards facilitating better understanding
and increased attention to the benefits of trans-sectorial cooperation between grassroots,
research and decision-making actors as a contributive approach to the SDGs.

If completed in future by integrating other local environmental performance indicators the outcome of this research could become a viable tool for local and regional system of government in establishing policies in order to effectively preserve the environment.

In the last two decades the Romanian urban space faced major dimensional, structural and functional transformations. Our paper proposes the evaluation of urban dynamics in Bacău municipality analysing the overall territorial evolution and the changes of urban function by two opposite and complementary tendencies which fundamentally marked the habitation pattern. On the one hand we refer to the modification in urban form considering the extension of built-up area – often tentacular and without suitable regulations– by sprawl and by adding or captiously urbanising rural neighbour localities. On the other hand we have in mind the multiple phenomena linked to the restructuring and sometimes the dissolution suffered by the constructed area and which results into a heterogenous urban mosaic composed by adding or demolishing buildings or by changing the land use which is reflected in population and buildings densities and in the manifestation of urban flows. Finally, we intend to make a statement on the manner in which there has been or not a changing in the pattern of urban habitation in the post-communist period, taking into consideration the divergent effects of periurbanization, urban sprawl or the restructuring/dissolution of urban space of Bacau municipality.

The present article is a conceptual and bibliometric radiography of 'the new trinity of governance' (Joseph & McGregor, 2020) that includes sustainability, resilience, and wellbeing from the viewpoint of territorial approaches. First, the paper makes theoretical consideration s of the three concepts by analysing their definition and characteristics. Second, the study proposes a bibliometric analysis of the three well-established concepts, taking into account the papers that include the relations between all three in a single framework. Third, we developed a content analysis considering only the most relevant papers in the proposed study area as we try to highlight the main theoretical and empirical implications of overlapping sustainability, resilience, and wellbeing from the viewpoint of place-based strategies and planning as reflected by current scientific research. The results show the prevalence of four major directions of research which include the three concepts as pillars for the theoretical and empirical approaches: 1) nature-centred assessments, 2) safe and sustainable human activities and critical services, 3) participative governance for planning human settlements, 4) individuals' and communities' culture and identities. Finally, the missing link that can transform all these convergent, but still diverse, perspectives is identified as being the capabilities theory of Amartya Sen. To accomplish this role, the classic theory was reinterpreted in a broader sustainability-related approach that takes into consideration the equity and wellbeing of individuals and communities, but also the equilibrium between nature and human development. Conclusively, if managed wisely, the new integrative approach could mark a paradigm shift that might push forward new ways of planning and governing sustainable, safe and liveable territories.

Investing in green facilities is a process of urban renewal that can transform cities by enhancing the quality of life, strengthening the local economy and reducing the environmental impact. Nevertheless, greener cities are not a guarantee for improved adaptive capacity when facing current local or global challenges. In this context, we have taken into account a series of sample cities from Central and Eastern European Union. Using the green cities typology proposed by the European Environment Agency, the present approach studies the statistical relationship between indicators of green infrastructure and different proxies for the resilience capacity and performance. The results distinguish between different types of green cities, indicating which are more resilient and, respectively, which are less resilient. The statistical relationship between the indicators shows that green infrastructures are developed in new urban areas, while the natural areas diminish the flood risk and air pollution and make cities more attractive; however, in older and higher density cities, the green is sacrificed for other uses that are considered more profitable. The conclusions highlight the contradictory characteristics in the territorial distributions of cities in relation to their green infrastructure and resilience features. The present assessment contributes to promoting an integrated vision that could be used in urban planning and in more coherent strategies for sustainable cities.
