AbstractUnderstanding client variables relevant to clinical decision-making is a core feature of psychotherapy. The previous meta-analysis emphasized variables related to stages of psychotherapy, motivational stages of change, alliance, reactance, coping, attachment styles, and emotional stability in psychotherapy outcomes. However, a clinical measure that captures these empirically based clinical variances is missing. The present study describes the development and preliminary analysis of the Clinical Decision-Making Inventory (CDMI) in a sample of individuals engaged in a psychotherapeutic process. One hundred and twenty-three participants (M = 20.28, SD = 5.80) engaged in a psychotherapy process, were assessed in a cross-sectional design. On one hand, the stages of psychotherapy, motivational stages of change, reactance, coping, attachment styles, and emotional stability were negatively correlated with symptomatology, cognitive fusion, interpersonal problems, coping mechanisms, and expressive suppression. On the other hand, correlated positively with metacognition and cognitive reappraisal. Attachment style and emotional stability predicted symptomatology. The CDMI showed promising results; however, more research is required to deepen the psychometric analysis.

AbstractThe identification of dysfunctional patterns in individuals' interpersonal interactions is a cornerstone of psychotherapy. The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP-32) is one of the most used measures to explore individuals' interpersonal styles. However, an IIP-32 Portuguese version is missing. Therefore, this study describes a preliminary psychometric study of an IIP-32 Portuguese version in a nonclinical sample. In a cross-sectional correlational design, 250 participants (Mage = 20.67,SD= 4.88, males = 33, females = 217) were assessed with self-report questionnaires. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), convergent, and divergent validities of the IIP-32 were tested with the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). Relationships with symptomatology were also tested with the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI-53). The EFA showed a theoretically coherent eight-factor structure. Almost all of the IIP-32 subscales were positively correlated with personal discomfort and with BSI-53 subscales. Vindictive/self-centred, socially inhibited, domineering/controlling and self-sacrificing subscales predicted symptomatology. Promising preliminary psychometric properties were found that may support the IIP-32 as a reliable instrument to assess interpersonal styles. However, more research is required to deepen the analysis of the IIP-32 in the Portuguese population.

This paper aims to present a history of the Portuguese political poster in two key moments of twentieth century Portuguese politics, the moment of the establishment of the 'Estado Novo' (or New State) i.e., Salazar's authoritarian and quasi-fascist dictatorship which ran from 1933- 1974, and the period of the Revolution of April 25 of 1974, which overthrew the previous regime. The two distinct ideologies give rise to two contrasting modes of visual discourse. This is particularly evident in posters made in the two revolutionary moments (1933-1938 and 1974-76). These reveal ruptures in relation to the visual discourses of posters made in the periods before and after these dates. The paper shows how the posters offer a particular kind of lens on the two contrasting revolutionary moments; a way of looking at how the two revolutions attempted to communicate to and connect with the Portuguese people in whose name and one whose behalf—ostensibly in the first case, substantively in the second—the revolutions were undertaken. In terms of the understanding of activism and revolutionary graphics a contribution is made to understanding how revolutions of left and right contrastingly 2 present themselves—and how, through the use of poster, they evoke or extol particular kinds of political subjects and political orders.
