This article deals with a certain number of issues raised by the use of crowdsourcing in the management of photographic archives. Although crowdsourcing is (and should remain) a vital instrument in the description and analysis of photographic material, it does not really take into account certain problems such as the difference between information and knowledge, the reduction of knowledge to merely cognitive elements (at the expense of social, political, and ideological belief systems) and the creative tension between the unique artefact on the one hand and serialization on the other hand. Le présent article s'interroge à la fois sur le cas particulier du roman-photo et le problème général de la définition des médias. À travers les difficultés que pose la circonscription du roman-photo, on cherche en effet à rouvrir le débat sur les manières dont il convient de penser le concept de média. Afin de suggérer quelques nouvelles pistes, on s'appuie dans cet article sur le grand livre de Stanley Cavell (philosophe encore mal connu du public francophone) sur le cinéma, The World Viewed. L'intérêt exceptionnel de ce livre consiste entre autres en sa théorie du concept de média. Pour Cavell, il y a média si trois conditions sont remplies : il faut d'abord qu'une forme soit revêtue de sens ; il faut ensuite que cette forme et cette signification se matérialisent dans des œuvres concrètes ; il faut enfin que cette combinaison concrète de formes et de sens se fasse de façon automatique. L'article commente ces divers aspects de la théorie de Cavell, puis tente de les appliquer au corpus photoromanesque.

Que signifie être ou se sentir Flamand ?La question flamande semble être un noeud gordien: langue et culture, histoire et économie, politique et justice y sont inextricablement liées. cependant, tout au long de ce fouillis, un autre fil rouge se dévide, presque inévitablement, celui de l'identité flamande, en tant que fiction et en tant que réalité. Philosophes, médias, politiques et hommes de la rue, tout le monde a son opinion sur cette identité flamande, tout comme les auteurs de cet essai inspiré des Mythologies de Roland Barthes. À travers les trente vignettes analysées ici, ils interrogent la manière dont le Flamand se présente dans son comportement quotidien: que regarde-t-il à la télévision? comment tond-il sa pelouse? quand aime-t-il aller au bistrot? quelles expressions aime-t-il ressasser? comme Freud dans sa Psychopathologie de la vie quotidienne, les auteurs tentent de pénétrer " l'être " flamand, en regardant ce que le Flamand fait (ou non) et en écoutant comment le Flamand parle (et ce qu'il pourrait cacher) ; 0 ; info:eu-repo/semantics/published

[EN] This paper provides an overview of the methodologies and infrastructures used to build a MOOC based on the European Union's funded project DETECt. Despite the many advances in terms of course architecture and improvement of the learning tools, the question around the right methods and approaches to design humanities-oriented MOOCs is still very debated. Abstract. In recent decades, large wildfires have inflicted considerable damage on valuable Natura 2000 regions in Belgium. Despite these events and the general perception that global change will exacerbate wildfire prevalence, this has not been studied yet in the Belgian context. Therefore, the national government initiated the national action plan on wildfires in order to evaluate the wildfire risk, on the one hand, and the materials, procedures, and training of fire services, on the other hand. This study focuses on the spatial distribution of the ignition probability, a component of the wildfire risk framework. In a first stage, we compile a historical wildfire database using (i) newspaper articles between 1994 and 2016 and (ii) a list of wildfire interventions between 2010 and 2013, provided by the government. In a second stage, we use a straightforward method relying on Bayes' rule and a limited number of covariates to calculate the ignition probability. It appears that most wildfire-prone areas in Belgium are located in heathland where military exercises are held. The provinces that have the largest relative areas with a high or very high wildfire risk are Limburg and Antwerp. Our study also revealed that most wildfire ignitions in Belgium are caused by humans (both arson and negligence) and that natural causes such as lightning are rather scarce. Wildfire prevention can be improved by (i) excluding military activity in fire-prone areas during the fire season, (ii) improving collaboration with foreign emergency services, (iii) concentrating the dedicated resources in the areas that display the highest ignition probabilities, (iv) improving fire detection methods, and (v) raising more awareness among the public.
