Financial integration and development in sub-Saharan Africa: A study of informal finance in Tanzania
In: Working Paper, 79
This report is part of a broader study of the financial sectors of three other sub-Saharan African countries - Ghana, Malawi and Nigeria. The broader comparative study investigates why financial market integration and deeper intermediation in sub-Saharan Africa has not yet been fully achieved. Within this thrust, the Tanzanian study examines two specific issues: (1) why dualism in the Tanzanian financial markets has persisted despite recent attempts to liberalise the markets; and (2) which policy, institutional and structural factors and measures can accelerate (or impede) the integration of its financial markets and improve financial intermediation. Structural adjustment and sustainable development in Tanzania
(DÜI-Sbd)
