Performance and media literacy. Dieter Baacke's foundation of media education as discourse pragmatics on the basis of a digital archive of Dieter Baacke's complete work created especially for this doctoral thesis, the pragmatic level of discourse is examined on a broad scale. With regard to the discussions on the concept of media literacy the relevance of discourse pragmatics in the framework of media education is outlined. Based on current research on the method of discourse analysis - and the works of Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu - the methodological part of this work, prepares a close reading of Baackes habilitation thesis >Communication and Competence<. This thesis is therefore described in the sense of a discourse-analytical depth analysis and contextualized in the history of science. As a cumulative, publication-based dissertation, a total of eleven further contributions discuss various aspects of media education that are directly related to Dieter Baacke's work. Thus, media theories and media histories are explained in the same way as media-specific parts of the works of Jürgen Habermas and Pierre Bourdieu, whose theory formation provides the opportunity to combine (French) praxeology and (German) theory of action. In addition, this doctoral thesis includes a "grammatopraxeological" film analysis and a concluding contribution to Political Philosophy, which makes the entire work readable as part of Historical Materialism 4.0.

; Starting from Dieter Baacke's habilitation treatise «communication and competence» (1972/1973), the research results of a close reading of Baacke's founding of media education are presented in this article, which analyses his theory in the context of its contemporary historical origin in the framework of a discourse analysis as a sociology of knowledge. Particular attention is paid to the role and function of cybernetics, systems theory and social criticism as a historical condition of Baackes founding of media education. In this context, especially the specific role of the term «homeostasis» is worked out, which marks in cybernetics and systems theory the presumption, that any system tends «autopoietic» to an equilibrium. On the contrary Baacke himself refers to the Marxist assumption, that the capitalist system is not headed towards a balance, but is highly vulnerable to crises. This is of paramount importance, if we can show, that the debates of the early 1970s, following May 1968, raise the political question even today of whether media education is a system-stabilizing «social technology» (Luhmann) or a system-conquering «Critical theory of society» (Habermas). It is also shown that the current debates on «media literacy» go back to Baacke, who is archaeologically associated with the Marxian philosophy of praxis. The paper proposes to connect Baacke's theory with Habermas and Bourdieu in the terms of a «praxeological» and «action-oriented media education», which should theoretically and practically set in their right the «practices» of the «Actors» in opposition to systems and structures.

; Based on current debates on the return of marxist positions, Alessandro Barberi analyzes the foundations of historical materialism and emphasizes that Marx is still right when he has left us the crucial analytical tools to interpret social space as a class struggle. Referring to Pierre Bourdieu, Terry Eagleton and Didier Eribon, one thing is more than clear in terms of media education: the class struggle begins in our school classes. From kindergarten to university, our education systems reproduce the most brutal social differences and cement a system of the most severe resource agglomeration in which the wealthy families reproduce their (symbolic) goods, f.e. academic titles. In the field of political philosophy, Barberi's contribution therefore attempts to provide classifying tools to understand the class-specific differences in our educational system in order to change them on the way to the economic equality of all people.

; Decision taking actors are able to criticise big data as market radical capital and accumulation machine in theory and in practice. They can design personal data in a democratic society in a self-assured perspective. To substantiate this thesis the relation of data and power is discussed historically and the freedom of actors justified. A democratic and this action orientated media pedagogy is reproduced. With an action orientated media education, teaching participatory media literacy can be initiated.
