La Ciudad de México en el siglo XIX, como un espacio urbano, ha sido objeto de estudio por medio de investigaciones histórico-académicas desde la década de 1970. Este artículo se propone revisar y analizar esta producción, sus énfasis temáticos, las continuidades y los temas y puntos de vista que han marcado la historiografía sobre este particular. También busca explorar aquellos trabajos considerados como historia urbana, de la misma manera que las investigaciones que toman en cuenta el espacio urbano para el estudio de problemas sociales, políticos y culturales. ; City as an urban space in the nineteenth century has been the focus of study in academic historical research since the 1970s. The aim of this article is to review and analyze this academic production, its thematic highlights, the continuities, and also the subjects and points of view that have marked historiography on this topic. This article will explore studies on urban history, as well as other research that takes into account urban space to examine social, political, and cultural problems.

El libro no sólo brinda una idea general sobre las principales características sociodemográficas de la ciudad decimonónica. También posibilita conocer las particularidades de los diferentes tipos de vivienda, el peso de la propiedad eclesiástica y la propiedad privada, los réditos que generaba la especulación inmobiliaria, la composición diversa y compleja de las vecindades, entre otros asuntos.
