The theory of "monocritics," critics who are reasonably well informed, but stress only one side of every issue, is illustrated by specific examples from the rule of Ethiopia's dictator Mengistu: despite flagrant abuses of power, widespread famine, & other serious social problems, the media have deemphasized the failure of socialism in Ethiopia. A brief overview of the inadequate state of socialism in other countries is presented, & reasons why black Africa has adopted socialism so readily are enumerated. It is hoped that "amphicritics," well-informed citizens of the world who will consider all sides of every issue objectively, will someday supplant the monocritics. 16 References. M. Malas

The Near-Eastern myth of the great mother reveals in its nature & symbolism that in the shrinking global village the universalized feminist fight can only succeed. Pre-Hellenic great mother beliefs are discussed, & the meaning of the name Hera & that divinity's functions & symbols in ancient Greece are described. The goddess Juno, Roman equivalent of Hera, is also described. The meaning of the myth is explored, & the role of women in ancient Sumeria, the times of the Hebrew patriarchs, & ancient Egypt is discussed. The great mother myth has prevented woman's complete subjugation & facilitated her perpetual struggle for freedom & equality. The myth symbolizes the importance & durability of the family & the noble attributes of women. Modified HA

A multidisciplinary & cross-cultural evaluation of Arthur Jensen's recent work ("The Nature of Black-White Difference on Various Psychometric Tests: Spearman's Hypothesis," The Behavioral and Brain Sciences,, no other publication information given) dealing with Charles Edward Spearman's hypothesis ("General Intelligence," American Journal of Psychology, 1904, 15, 201-292) concerning racial inequality & its social implications in the sphere of interracial conflict & peace. Scientific arguments are borrowed mainly from anthropology, biology, education, history, philosophy, psychology, religion, sociobiology, & sociology. The discussion is based on four concepts -- peace, race, intelligence, & synthesis -- whose chief aspects are examined in detail. The main conclusions are that: Jensen has not proved that blacks are genetically inferior; all races are potentially equal; & an objective observer would be attracted about equally by Jensen's right to continue his research & by the blacks' right to be protected against studies with deleterious social implications.
