The information gained from pharmacogenomic testing is becoming increasingly recognized as an opportunity to improve our current dosing strategies for children. The identification of gene polymorphisms that influence drug disposition and effect can be used to help predict a child's susceptibility to toxicity and/or response to a particular drug or therapeutic regimen. However, the potential consequences of performing genomic ana lysis in children raise important ethical considerations. Although the level of risk introduced remains partially hypothetical, awareness of the ethical concerns and protective legislation will be an important part of fully informing patients, families, clinicians, and researchers about the risks and benefits of pharmacogenomic testing in children. Where it can be done without loss of benefit, risk reduction is a moral imperative, and so the ethical complexities related to pharmacogenomics must be addressed in an ongoing way as we continue to learn more about the value of the technology to children.

Technological advances that revolutionize diagnose and treatment of diseases brings ethical issues along. The fact that the ailing rates of many diseases do substantially differ between the countries with high income and those with lower income raises many questions on distributive justice that are profoundly interesting from both ethical and religious perspectives. These complex ethical questions are still defying us in order to develop a coherent perspective to respond to the diverse political, cultural, philosophical and vocational contexts in the discussion. El hecho de que todavía las tasas de curación de muchas enfermedades difieren sustancialmente entre los países de altos ingresos con aquellos de bajos niveles de ingreso hace surgir preguntas sobre la justicia distributiva que revisten un profundo interés desde las perspectivas éticas y religiosas. Estas preguntas éticas complejas siguen desafiándonos para desarrollar una perspectiva coherente que responda a la diversidad de los contextos políticos, culturales, filosóficos y vocacionales que surgen en la discusión.
