It makes no sense to do theological work in an ivory tower. The necessity of defining the concept 'people of God' may be illustrated by at least four elements of present-day experience: the baffling fate and often shocking politics of the State of Israel since the six-day war in 1967; the anti-Jewish elements which still shame many books written for the church, and many Christian declarations about Israel; the stuttering progress in matters of Jewish-Christian unity; and, finally, the need for a united and unequivocal testimony to Jesus Christ who is a Jew and the Son of God, and as such the s
; Within the framework of this paper, the centuries-long development process of the churchyard as a burial place in and around the church or the alter of relics has been traced, the fundamental characteristics of the churchyard defined and, on the basis of the knowledge acquired, churchyards used as burial grounds in the districts of Freistadt (Austria) and Český Krumlov (Czech Republic) located, investigated and compared with respect to their historical development, their spatial organisation, their physical elements and their utilisation. During this process it was possible to find eleven churchyards presently containing graves in the district of Freistadt, partially with neighbouring cemetery expansions. Three churchyards in the district of Český Krumlov were included in the work. Due to the development of the two neighbouring districts, which was strongly diverse in political and social terms in particular during the 20th century, it was only possible to direct compare the examples to a limited degree. The churchyard, from the early Middle Ages the archetypal Christian burial ground, has been under a constant process of change and an ideal image can thus only be seen as an extract of a development with numerous deviations. The churchyard therefore becomes a reflection of society during the given period. Knowledge regarding the religious meaning, the language of form, the establishment and development of the churchyard as a unit of the church and cemetery, can thereby serve as a basis for a new understanding, from which appreciation and maintenance of these old burial sites may arise. ; Verf.: Markus Barth ; Zsfassung in engl. und tschech. Abstract. We investigated the effects of different perspective taking instructions on emotional variables in the context of intergroup reconciliation. In three experiments we found that individual-level and group-level perspective taking increased willingness to compensate an outgroup for historical transgressions of the ingroup. The data suggests that the two forms of perspective taking trigger different psychological processes. Individual-level perspective taking was more strongly linked to feelings of empathy. Group-level perspective taking increased feelings of collective guilt. Collective guilt mediated the positive effect of group-level perspective taking on willingness to compensate. No such effect was found for individual-level perspective taking.

Despite global commitments and efforts, a gender‐based division of paid and unpaid work persists. To identify how psychological factors, national policies, and the broader sociocultural context contribute to this inequality, we assessed parental‐leave intentions in young adults (18–30 years old) planning to have children (N = 13,942; 8,880 identified as women; 5,062 identified as men) across 37 countries that varied in parental‐leave policies and societal gender equality. In all countries, women intended to take longer leave than men. National parental‐leave policies and women's political representation partially explained cross‐national variations in the gender gap. Gender gaps in leave intentions were paradoxically larger in countries with more gender‐egalitarian parental‐leave policies (i.e., longer leave available to both fathers and mothers). Interestingly, this cross‐national variation in the gender gap was driven by cross‐national variations in women's (rather than men's) leave intentions. Financially generous leave and gender‐egalitarian policies (linked to men's higher uptake in prior research) were not associated with leave intentions in men. Rather, men's leave intentions were related to their individual gender attitudes. Leave intentions were inversely related to career ambitions. The potential for existing policies to foster gender equality in paid and unpaid work is discussed.
