This paper empirically investigated the impact of board diversity on the performance of 13 banks in Jordan during the period of 2005–2020. Panel data was collected from the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) and the formal websites of the different banks. Fixed-effect and random-effect techniques have been applied to check the impact of board diversity on banks' performance. The results found that the larger the size of the bank, the better their return since they hold more deposits, and this increase their investment opportunities. In addition, the larger the size of the board, the better the performance since more experienced directors would be included in the decision-making and higher added knowledge in the decision-making process. Including more board members should enrich the decision-making process with high experience and know-how characteristics. In addition, this paper confirmed that Jordanian banks should include more women in their boards since sharing their managerial skills and experience should enhance banks' performance.

This paper empirically investigates the smoothness of dividends on non-financial companies in Jordan by applying the asymmetric partial adjustment model. In addition, this research investigated the data for 65 non-financial companies (37 industrial and 28 services) listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) covering the period 1997–2020. Fixed and random-effects techniques have been applied to check the smoothness of dividends. The results confirmed that the non-financial Jordanian companies smooth their dividends at a moderate rate, our results contradict the signaling theory; we find that large companies smooth their dividend faster than small ones. Furthermore, in line with the agency cost theory, low-leveraged firms smooth their dividends faster than high-leveraged firms. Also, our results confirmed that highly profitable companies smooth their dividend more and this comes in line with the signaling theory.

This research paper focuses on the growing importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the business world, particularly in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The main aim is to bridge the gap by assessing the impact of CSR and corporate governance on financial performance. Ultimately, this paper emphasizes the strategic importance of CSR for improving financial performance and promoting trustworthiness and public image. This paper applied the ordinary least squares (OLS) and panel regressions (fixed and random) to investigate the impact of CSR, board size, independent directors, company size, and leverage as independent variables on the financial performance as the dependent variable (return on assets — ROA). The data were collected from Refinitiv Eikon platform for 210 listed nonfinancial companies for the last ten years (2013–2022). The results suggested that the higher the company's involvement in CSR, the more the number of board members and the more independent directors the higher the performance. In addition, the higher the leverage in the GCC the less is the profitability of firms. Finally, the larger the company the better is the performance. Such results imply that more board of directors should be hired and increase compliance with the CSR principles to achieve better performance.

Satisfaction with health care services is a desired outcome of health care delivery. Nonetheless, there is scant information on client satisfaction with services provided in public health facilities in India. A cross-sectional study of persons attending public health facilities in Punjab, North India, was carried out in 2016. All district hospitals, subdistrict hospitals, 2 community health centres (CHCs), and 6 primary health centres (PHCs) were randomly selected from each of the 22 districts. A 60-item pre-tested and validated questionnaire was used to collect data. Participants (3278 outpatient department [OPD] and 1614 inpatient department [IPD]) visiting health care facilities were interviewed. Majority of OPD participants were satisfied with registration process, care providers, and personal issues like safety and security at the health facilities. Major domains of dissatisfaction were long waiting time and concern shown for patients during lab tests and x-rays. Most IPD participants were satisfied with care received from nurses and doctors, availability of medicines, and hospital environment. Domains of dissatisfaction were cleanliness of rooms and bathrooms and quietness at night. Varying levels of satisfaction were observed for experiences during stay, information about new medicine being given, pain control, and locomotion to bathroom or using bedpan. Around 71% were likely to recommend the health facility to others. Satisfaction with public health facilities is context dependent. Lack of drugs and supplies, poor information about medicines, long waiting time, poor cleanliness, lack of privacy, and peace were the major reasons for dissatisfaction in our study.

AbstractThis paper provides a bibliometric and Scientometric analysis of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in banking sector. Our study analyzes 551 articles from the Scopus database to find out the relationship between CSR and banking. A bibliometric method was used to visualize the results using R‐studio and VOS viewer software. The Scientometric analysis was conducted to determine the findings and mappings of the research themes, directions of current and future research, impact, co‐occurrence, co‐citations and impact and collaboration trends. We explore how CSR literature has evolved over the years in the banking sector between 1993 and 2021. We find that publication in the CSR and banking domain has increased significantly during 2017 and 2021. Social aspects, board of directors, CSR, environment, competitions, Islamic banking, sustainability, disclosure, ethics, legitimacy theory, sustainable banking, loyalty, and brand equity are the popular research trends and collaboration trends identified. We also provide further scope of the study based on the extensive review of the past literature. Our findings may provide help to future researchers, bankers, and regulators in understanding the current trends and future research progression in the CSR and banking sector.

AbstractWe apply bibliometric analysis to the review papers published in the finance domain, considering 264 review and qualitative studies. The approach applied in this study involves using review studies published in finance literature from 2000 to 2022, predominantly aiming at the pedigree of such papers and unfolding the renaissance experienced by such papers in recent years. We apply bibliometric analysis to know the most influential countries, authors, institutions, and journals publishing review papers. Results of the study identified four literature review clusters: The first cluster is related to 'corporate finance and financial markets', the second cluster combines the studies related to 'financial innovations and Fintech', the third cluster is related to 'social finance and financial inclusion', and finally, the fourth cluster combines the studies related to 'CSR and corporate governance'. We conclude that the bibliometric analysis and literature review papers are critical for identifying and highlighting the emerging problems in finance and motivating future academics to pursue further investigations and provide solutions.

The purpose of the current study is to investigate the role of the Islamic financial system in recovery post-COVID-19 and the way Fintech can be utilized to combat the economic reverberations created by COVID-19. The global financial crisis of 2008 has established the credentials of the Islamic financial system as a sustainable financial system which can save the long run interests of the average citizens around the world while adding value to the real economy. The basic ethical tenets available in the Islamic financial system make it more suited and readymade to fight the economic aftershocks of a pandemic like COVID-19. The basic principles of ethical Islamic finance have solid connections to financial stability and corporate social responsibility within the wide-reaching business context. With the emergence of Financial technology (Fintech) it has provided a missing impetus to the Islamic financial system to compete on equal ground with its conventional counterpart and prove its mettle. The study uses discourse analysis along with the content analysis to extract content and draw a conclusion. The findings of the study indicate that COVID-19 pandemic has provided the opportunity for the social and open innovation to grow and finance world have turned to open innovation to provide a speedy, timely, reliable, and sustainable solution to the world. The findings of the study provide significant implications for governments and policy makers in efficient application of Fintech and innovative Islamic financial services to fight the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
