Boris Becker, geboren 1967 in Leimen, wurde 1985 der jüngste Wimbledonsieger aller Zeiten. Er gewann 64 Turniere und war Olympiasieger. Er hat vier Kinder von drei Frauen und ist heute Unternehmer in eigener Sache. Erstmals spricht der ehemalige Tennisstar über (...) sein Leben nach dem Tennis. Was tut er heute? Wo sieht er sich in zehn Jahren? Und was sagen seine Söhne und seine jetzige Ehefrau Lilly? Boris Becker, Tennis-Wunderkind, Held von Wimbledon, das Sport-Idol einer ganzen Generation, spricht Klartext. Die Arbeit befasst sich mit der Eruierung von Ursachen für die unterschiedliche Innovationsfähigkeit der beiden wirtschaftsliberalen und demokratischen Schwellenländer Mexiko und Chile. Dabei liegt der Fokus auf der institutionellen Verfasstheit der Governance-Strukturen in den beiden Ländern zur Steuerung des für Innovationsfähigkeit wesentlichen Wissensaustausches zwischen Hochschulen u. Unternehmen. Auf Basis von Dokumentenrecherche sowie Experteninterviews wird dabei die These von der Überlegenheit einer netzwerkförmigen gegenüber einer hierarchischen Steuerung untersucht. Ferner wird die empirische Analyse auf Basis potentieller alternativer Erklärungsgrößen kontrolliert. Im Ergebnis können maßgebliche Schlussfolgerungen für die Gestaltung Nationaler Innovationssysteme gezogen werden, die über den Fokus auf Schwellenländer teilweise hinausgehen und sich auch auf Eckpunkte wie Wirtschaftsstruktur und Unternehmenskultur beziehen.

There exists a huge amount of literature with regard to the new openness of firms or universities to trigger innovations. Among others the Triple-Helix approach conceptualizes the role of the state to fulfill the demand of social welfare. The state, universities and private companies together fulfill different values und function according to different rules of the game. In fact, the state disposes of the monopoly of power. Therefore, it is of interest to further elaborate the question of how the state should fulfill its role within this interplay. The purpose of the following paper is therefore to reveal firstly a corresponding research gap and to formulate an answer by referring to organizational formats. By means of a theoretically derived concept according to plausibility considerations the superiority of a network over a hierarchy governmental approach is proclaimed. Secondly, the paper highlights the new demanding and conflicting role of universities with regard to the collaboration with private business companies. Universities as a knowledge supplier fulfil a crucial role within this institutional framework and need to redefine their self-understanding as collaboration with business gains importance. Thirdly Web 2.0 applications within the framework of lifelong learning concepts are being discussed as an adequate tool to fulfil the requirements developed earlier on: The question arises in what way innovative technologies and blended learning can support learning by business people on the one hand and adapt research work of university people to the realistic demands of business on the other. In conclusion some policy implications are derived from this conceptual paper, focusing on the role of intermediary agents and innovative technologies to enhance trust relationships between the different stakeholders and seeking to add useful considerations with regard to innovation policy. The main findings deny a restrictive policy approach. Instead, rather a concept in the sense of help for self-help seems to be fruitful. By means of organizing the innovation policy throughout a sense of 'Openness' towards all relevant stakeholders the impetus lies on strengthening the system from the inside. Considering the interests of the stakeholders and subsiding digital formats of learning and knowledge transfer a valuable contribution possibly could be done.

This study investigated the question of whether public managers' personal values are related to their decision-making styles. One hundred sixty-one state government managers participated, completing the Rokeach Value Survey and the Rowe Decision Style Inventory. Results indicate that there is an identifiable relationship: Of Rokeach's 14 clusters of values, 12 were significantly related to particular decision-making styles.

This monograph progresses from a consideration of definitional issues to the development of a conceptual model for marketing‐logistics interaction and finally to a discussion of the issues of implementation of the model within the context of marketing strategy. Thus, following an introduction, Part II begins with definition of the field and examines the position of physical distribution in relation to marketing. Part III discusses the relationship of physical distribution and macro‐marketing, and is thus concerned about the social, aggregative goals of logistics systems, including the costs of distribution. Part IV continues this argument, examining specifically the influence of physical distribution on channel structure. Part V then focuses on the assumptions underlying the customer service function, asking how physical distribution can influence final demand in the market place. Part VI presents a conceptual model of marketing‐logistics demand stimulation. The operational issues concerned with its implementation are shown in Part VII; and a summary of the relevant points is presented in Part VIII. The concern has been not with presenting either new computational models nor empirical data but with presenting a new perspective on the marketing‐logistics interface. There is a need to reduce the barriers between these fields and to present more useful ways for co‐operation.

This research examines gender differences in personal characteristics, work experiences, work attitudes, and professional commitment for a group of young (age < 45) dentists. While males and females had similar work attitudes, they differed in work experience -males worked more hours, saw more patients, and earned higher incomes. Males had higher scores on affective and behavioral professional commitment measures than did females, but the gender difference was significant only for behavioral commitment. For both females and males, affective professional commitment was related positively to job satisfaction, office cohesion, having young children, and negatively related to stress. The relationship between owning the practice and affective professional commitment was greater for men than women, whereas the relationship between the proportion of office staff who are close friends and affective professional commitment was greater for women than men. For males, behavioral commitment was related positively to being married, being a specialist, working more hours, having higher income and belonging to the professional association. For females, behavioral commitment was related positively to job involvement, office cohesion, and the number of days worked each week. Results suggest that affiliation is related more closely to professional commitment among females, while practice control and productivity are related more closely to professional commitment among males.
