Restoring the Civic Value of Care in a Post-Welfare Reform Society
Examines the role of labor as a point of entry into citizenship and its accompanying political rights. The article notes that several obstacles confront people on the path toward citizenship. These include; the differences of gender that confront human equality; the fact that children are not born with the ability to labor or excercise political rights; and lastly, the type of care children receive is a form of labor that does not result in property. Explores how care fits with John Locke's political theory. The article also provides a history of welfare services and reform. References. K. Coddon
