AbstractThis manuscript aimed to develop an instrument assessing vocational values among students (VVS–S). The scale was developed in French using three different samples of Togolese participants for item development (N = 140), exploratory (N = 308) and confirmatory analyses (N = 300). It consists of 17 items divided into the five subscales of Power, Family, Helping, Salary, and Creativity. The correlational, higher-order, and bifactor models showed that these values could be considered independently. Moreover, four of the values correlated positively but weakly with life satisfaction. The VVS–S's usefulness for research and practice in counseling, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, is discussed.

This study investigated the effects of nonverbal self‐disclosure within the dynamic of aptitude—treatment interaction. Participants (N= 94) watched a video of a career counseling session aimed at helping the jobseeker to find employment. The video was then edited to display 3 varying degrees of nonverbal self‐disclosure. In conjunction with the measure of counselor assessment, the authors measured the fear‐of‐intimacy level by using the Doi and Thelen (1993) model. Results showed that when self‐disclosure does not have an effect on counselor assessment, a moderator effect due to the fear of intimacy becomes evident. Implications for research and practice are presented.

This book presents an international review of the principle new post-modern narrative interventions in Guidance and Career Counseling. It offers an international perspective for the application of effective post-modern Guidance and Career Counseling interventions to facilitate individuals' life and career management. The volume serves as a fundamental instrument and reference for researchers, professionals, counselors, career counselors, professors, and students interested in the field.

The authors examined potential links between perceived organizational support (POS) and objective and subjective career success through the satisfaction of the 3 basic psychological needs (BPNs) posited in self‐determination theory. The inclusion of BPN satisfaction as a mediator provides an interesting route, suggesting it is a condition for POS to lead to career success. The authors submitted an online questionnaire to 379 French counseling psychologists and examined the responses using a cross‐sectional design with only 1 measurement. The results indicated the indirect effects of POS on objective career success via the satisfaction of the 3 BPNs and on subjective career success via satisfaction of the needs for autonomy and competence.

International audience ; This research explored the effects of sense of community and authenticity on meaning in life in social communities in France. The sample included one hundred participants from four social communities (i.e., political, religious, virtual learning, and mutual aid). The Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the Sense of Community Scale, and the Authenticity Scale were administered to the respondents. The correlational analyses indicated that sense of community and authenticity were more related to the presence of meaning (r = 0.29 and r = 0.54, respectively) than to the search for meaning (r = −0.39 and r = 0.03, respectively). In addition, no interaction effects were found between sense of community and the three dimensions of authenticity, suggesting that the level of authenticity did not influence the relationships between sense of community and presence of or search for meaning. The practical and research implications of the study for social communities in the field of existential psychology were discussed.

This study investigated the role of personality traits and emotional intelligence in relation to resistance to change. The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire–Revised Short Form, the Bar‐On Emotional Quotient Inventory, and the Resistance to Change Scale were administered to 274 Italian physicians and nurses. With respect to resistance to change, the study revealed that emotional intelligence added a significant percentage of incremental variance compared with personality trait variances. The results highlight the role of emotional intelligence and its relationship with resistance to change and offer new research and intervention perspectives for career development and career counseling.

Purpose
– The purpose of this paper is to empirically verify a theoretical model of candidates' feedback integration in the context of individual psychological assessment (IPA).


Design/methodology/approach
– Structural equation modeling analyses were conducted in a two-wave longitudinal study. A total of 97 candidates completed questionnaires immediately after their feedback session as well as three months later.


Findings
– Results indicate that candidates' motivational intention to act on IPA feedback is a pivotal variable linking feedback perceptions and post-feedback behaviors. Source credibility, assessment face validity, as well as perception that the feedback helped increase candidate's awareness were related to motivational intention. Conversely, feedback acceptance was not related to candidates' motivation to act on feedback and post-feedback behaviors.


Research limitations/implications
– Because the authors relied on self-report questionnaires, future studies would benefit from including externally assessed behavioral outcomes. Future research efforts should continue distinguishing candidates' acceptance and awareness based on their distinctive contributions in the feedback integration process.


Practical implications
– The results indicate that motivation created during the feedback session is a stronger predictor of day-to-day behavioral changes than it is of involvement in specific developmental activities.


Originality/value
– This research fills a gap in IPA literature by highlighting some IPA benefits and the processes involved in increasing feedback value for the participant.
