Tracking mobile targets using wireless sensor networks is a potential surveillance application of practical importance suitable for military as well as civilian fields. It can be used for guiding robots in hard to reach areas e.g. nuclear power plants etc. The capabilities of a simple target tracking solution can be enhanced by providing guidance information for a friendly object to reach the manoeuvring adversary target. This paper presents a practical architecture for target tracking using wireless sensor network by providing solutions to key components like node localization, time synchronization, target detection and tracking. The methodology presented here gives a solution to compute the state parameters of the adversary target, tracks it and associate the same with the location in the periphery of wireless sensor networks. The simulation is done using OMNeT++ under Castalia framework.

Land resourceinventory is basically aimed at deriving comprehensive information on natural resources for designingmicro level land use planning and for enhancing land productivity and farm income. In view of this, anattempt was made to explore the economic viability of generating the soil survey information (1:12,500scale ) to minimize the cost of production thorough site specific nutrient management in Garakahallimicrowatershed, Karnataka State. The results showed that the per hectare cost of improved method ofsoil survey (using PAN+LISS III imagery) is ` 264 over conventional method of soil survey costing `337. Improved method of soil survey can minimize the cost up to 22 per cent in field survey. The economicviability of soil map was assessed by estimating fertilizer requirement with and without soil information.The impact in change in fertilizer application of finger millet production on the basis of soil informationcan reduce application of nitrogen by 5265 kg and phosphorus by 4661 kg and improvement of 1054quintal of yield with economic benefits of ` 8.43 lakhs in the watershed area of 527 ha. The study foundthat the benefits of soil survey in site specific fertilizer management in finger millet with the Benefit CostRatio 1:2.85 and the additional income due to soil management of ` 1600 per ha. The soil information isuseful in minimizing fertilizer cost and in enhancing farm income. Not Available ; In marker-assisted breeding for bacterial blight (BB) resistance in rice, three major resistance genes, viz., Xa21, xa13 and xa5, are routinely deployed either singly or in combinations. As efficient and functional markers are yet to be developed for xa13 and xa5, we have developed simple PCR-based functional markers for both the genes. For xa13, we designed a functional PCR-based marker, xa13-prom targeting the InDel polymorphism in the promoter of candidate gene Os8N3 located on chromosome 8 of rice. With respect to xa5, a multiplex-PCR based functional marker system, named xa5FM, consisting of two sets of primer pairs targeting the 2-bp functional nucleotide polymorphism in the exon II of the gene TFIIAɤ5 (candidate for xa5), has been developed. Both xa13-prom and xa5FM can differentiate the resistant and susceptible alleles for xa13 and xa5, respectively, in a co-dominant fashion. Using these two functional markers along with the already reported functional PCR-based marker for Xa21 (pTA248), we designed a single-tube multiplex PCR based assay for simultaneous detection of all the three major resistance genes and demonstrated the utility of the multiplex marker system in a segregating population. ; Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India (Grant Nos. The primary aim of day-care surgery units is to allow for early recovery of the patients so that they can return to their familiar 'home' environment; the management hence should be focused towards achieving these ends. The benefits could include a possible reduction in the risk of thromboembolism and hospital-acquired infections. Furthermore, day-care surgery is believed to reduce the average unit cost of treatment by up to 70% as compared to inpatient surgery. With more than 20% of the world's disease burden, India only has 6% of the world's hospital beds. Hence, there is an immense opportunity for expansion in day-care surgery in India to ensure faster and safer, cost-effective patient turnover. For this to happen, there is a need of change in the mindset of all concerned clinicians, surgeons, anaesthesiologists and even the patients. A group of nine senior consultants from various parts of India, a mix of private and government anaesthesiologists, assembled in Mumbai and deliberated and discussed on the various aspects of day-care surgery. They formulated a consensus statement, the first of its kind in the Indian scenario, which can act as a guidance and tool for day-care anaesthesia in India. The statements are derived from the available published evidence in peer-reviewed literature including guidelines of several bodies such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists, British Association of Day Surgery and International Association of Ambulatory Surgery. The authors also offer interpretive comments wherever such evidence is inadequate or contradictory.

Not Available ; Phosphorus (P) is an essential macro-nutrient required for growth and development of all crop plants including rice. Low availability of P in the soils manifests in terms of impeding crop growth leading to yield losses in rice. Adequate genetic variability for low soil P tolerance and also P use efficiency has been documented in rice and a major QTL called Pup1, conferring tolerance to low soil P has been identified, characterized and cloned from an Indian landrace, Kasalath. In the present study, a set of 98 germplasm lines collected from North-Eastern part of India were characterized for low soil P tolerance by screening them in a plot with low soil P (with available P 20 kg ha−1). The rice lines showed significantly high genetic variability for low soil P tolerance associated traits. Stress indices were estimated based on yield under normal and low soil P conditions and cluster analysis based on the stress indices; yield under normal and low soil P condition grouped the genotypes into highly tolerant, tolerant and sensitive to low soil P. Among the rice lines, 18 showed tolerance to low soil P (i.e. yield reduction < 70% in low soil P condition). The genotypic analysis based on Pup1 associated molecular markers revealed the presence of complete or partial Pup1 genomic region in most of the germplasm lines. Interestingly, a landrace called Wazuhophek was observed to be completely devoid of Pup1 and hence it can serve as novel source for low P tolerance. ; Department of Biotechnology, Government of India
