No presente artigo, focalizamos um tipo específico de repetição saliente nos discursos políticos de campanha de Fernando Collor de Mello quando das eleições presidenciais de 1989: os paralelismos sintáticos. A partir de um olhar qualitativo e interpretativo para esse fenômeno, e apoiados pela Teoria da Mesclagem Conceptual (FAUCONNIER; TURNER, 2002), investigamos as funções dessa estratégia em um corpus constituído pelos três primeiros programas eleitorais levados ao ar pelo então candidato. Nossa análise sugere que os paralelismos sintáticos desempenham duas funções argumentativas importantes: de um lado, acionam um processo de recategorização de entidades conceptuais/discursivas; de outro, permitem apresentar o resultado desse processo como informação pressuposta, minimizando as chances de refutação e invisibilizando a perspectiva ideológica do que é dito. Essa lente cognitiva para os processos de construção de sentido nos permite mostrar os modos como a performance do ex-presidente atualiza certos lemas da comunicação de massa, aproximando os campos da política e do entretenimento. ; This article focuses on a specific type of repetition that turns out to be particularly frequent in the political speeches delivered by Fernando Collor de Mello during the 1989 presidential campaign in Brazil: syntactic parallelisms. By adopting a qualitative and interpretive perspective on the phenomenon, we use the framework of Conceptual Blending Theory (FAUCONNIER; TURNER, 2002) in order to investigate the functions of this strategy in a corpus constituted by the first three electoral programs aired by the candidate. Our analysis suggests that syntactic parallelisms play two important argumentative roles: on the one hand, it triggers a process of recategorization of conceptual/discursive entities; on the other hand, it allows the speaker to present the result of this process as backgrounded information, thus reducing the likelihood of rebuttal and making underlying ideology invisible. By using such cognitive lens to look into the meaning-making processes, we show how the former president's performances manifests certain premises of mass communication, bringing closer together the fields of politics and entertainment.

Abstract
This article presents some of the theoretical-epistemological assumptions and methods which underpin Narrative
Analysis in Brazil. In the niche we have carved out for ourselves, we combine (auto)ethnographic techniques with analytical tools
which draw on both narrative analysis and sociolinguistics, as well as discourse analysis more widely speaking. In this paper, we
especially seek to address what we consider the symbiotic relationship between the aforementioned field of study and contemporary
transdisciplinary social research. This is done by showcasing examples of narrative research carried out in Brazil, particularly
those motivated by sociopolitical concerns. Moreover, we aim to contribute to the debate ignited in post-truth times by the
performative view we take of language, and so to speak narrative, by contemplating the practical repercussions of innovations
stemming from the current state of affairs within the context of our own investigations.

ABSTRACT This article discusses the narrative practices of a Brazilian social movement whose members are the mothers and relatives of young people victimized by police raids into Rio de Janeiro's favelas. By analysing the narratives produced by activists, we explore how grief is converted into political fight. As we look into how mothers intertwine their individual pain with political activism, we examine (i) how emotions and suffering are organized in their narratives; and (ii) what discursive strategies are used in the process. Data was generated during public demonstrations, and the analysis suggests that it is by turning the pain of a losing a child into political insurgence that mothers narratively organize their emotions. As stories get told, events surrounding the murders are recontextualized and experiences are collectivized. Mothers' stories become narratives of resistance, which oppose institutional racism, but also narratives of re-existence (SOUZA, 2009), which recast the deaths of their children as an effect of a necropolitical logic of state organization.
