International audience ; In this paper, I draw on a collection of war memoirs written by soldiers who survived the Napoleonic campaigns. I examine what was sayable or unsayable concerning affect and sexuality in order to better understand the role that these memoirs played in self-narrative within the highly particular context of war. If the present self- narrative is also a sexual and emotional account, these memoirs demonstrate such interpretations of the self that must be seen as a recent phenomenon. After describing the military context and discussing how their testimonies are constructed, I will analyze the traces they have left of their affect and the manner in which space and sexuality are incorporated into their accounts of the war.

International audience ; The starting point of this work is the analysis of sexual and gendered injunctions that marred my research work, forcing me to think about my position and make an "I", heterosexual woman. It will then show all the difference that there is between this effort and academic veridiction an analysis of the epistemological foundations of experience; but also between purely factual and descriptive work to say "woman" and the awareness of what this means in terms of social relations, particularly in the academic space. This item is therefore not so much attempt to report a path or mediated by a singular experience "I" to think how the lack of experience – the fact of experience, to feel, living situation or share a condition – may eventually be mobilized to disqualify a job search. Using the experience inherited from the feminist dictum "the personal is political" is a political foundation gay studies. But far from obvious, it should question this evidence and analyze the epistemological foundations to better knowledge base in geography sexualities. It is especially important to think about the political use of academic véridictions or how the production of truth about oneself is at the expense of a critical analysis of power relations.
