La fondation au Népal en 1981 d'un mouvement fédérateur de l'hindouisme, la World Hindu Federation, se fait dans le cadre d'un hindouisme triomphant, où religion et nationalisme convergent dans l'exaltation de la monarchie. L'apogée en est la World Hindu Conference de 1988 à Katmandou. Mais avec la Révolution de 1990 les polémiques nées du maintien de la définition du Népal comme royaume hindou, et les conversions massives au christianisme, la WHF se voit contrainte d'adopter une position défensive. Diffusant un "néo-hindouisme" qui se veut retour à une tradition ancienne dite védique et englobement du bouddhisme, la WHF tente d'adapter sa stratégie népalaise à ce nouvel environnement socio-politique, tout en respectant le modèle "pan-hindou" venu de l'Inde.

Râmro-narâmro : The Perception of the Landscape among Indo-Nepalese in the Central Nepal Hills
How do the Nepalese Hindus of the Hill Region see their environment ? By semantics, their notion of a landscape can be associated with beauty, but what beauty ? According to what criteria ? Practical utility, wherein beauty is combined with fertility, is related to the religious symbolism used to portray a highly valued universe. A comparison with the landscape as evoked in folk songs and a brief look at painting shows that realistic representation has no meaning.
Comment se représente-t-on le corps dans le monde hindou ? Comment y est-il pensé et décrit ? Alors même que des recherches anthropologiques sur la société indienne l'ont placé au fondement des rapports sociaux entre castes, ou à la base des conceptions sur l'impureté, le corps n'avait jusqu'ici guère été étudié en lui-même.
