Recent reforms have Jed to calmer waters, creating a more reasonable balance between the State's priorities toward family stability and the need for greater freedom and equality in personal relationships. Current demographic indicators depict Soviet marriage as popular, but relatively weak, and characterized by high rates of divorce and low fertility.
