Vor dem Hintergrund der Darstellung der konfessionellen Struktur der Schwedischen Gesellschaft sowie deren ethnischer und kultureller Vielfalt präsentiert die Autorin ihren Forschungsansatz. Sie betrachtet Religion, Ethnizität und Multikulturalismus als soziale Konstrukte und betont zugleich, dass die muslimischen Repräsentationen stark im Zusammenhang mit den nationalen, ethnischen, religiösen und familiären Hintergründen variieren. In der untersuchten Gruppe sind Vertreterinnen der irakischen Schiiten-Muslime, der Sunniten-Muslime aus Libanon, der Ahmadiya-Muslime aus Pakistan sowie der europäischen Muslime aus Bosnien oder Albanien, die sich in erster Linie durch ihre nationale Zugehörigkeit ihr Selbstbild gestalten. In diesem Kontext werden Interviewergebnisse über Religion und Geschlecht, Tradition und Diaspora sowie über die Schule und Ausbildung thematisiert. Es wird der starke Einfluss der eigenen Kultur, Tradition und Religion hervorgehoben sowie die Tatsache, dass die Mädchen häufig gezwungen sind, ihre Wertorientierung zu verteidigen. (ICG).
