Studies of American citizens after the terror attacks on September 11 (2001) showed that a substantial proportion of the American population in New York City & elsewhere suffered from symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. They had to deal with massive panic attacks, flashbacks of terror-scenarios, & signs of depression. It is the aim of this study to evaluate major representative surveys concerning effects, which were generated by the acts of terror in German samples. It could be shown that the surveys in question displayed a strong influence of the attacks on general well-being in children & anxiety levels in adults & children alike. Parallel to the dramatic anxiety-producing effects of the attacks, a tendency towards growing prejudices against Jews & Muslims, but not against foreigners in general, could be deduced from the data. The terror attacks in America produced remarkable effects in German citizens, as mirrored in surveys of the general German population, with growing anxieties. From a perspective of social psychology, mechanisms of climate-changes towards authoritarian positions are discussed. 3 Tables, 3 Figures, 14 References. Adapted from the source document.
