Women in public life in Ghana
The main objective of this study is to examine the participation of women in three areas of public life, namely, academia, politics and executive. Inspite of the fact that the rate at which women participate in the public life has always been low in Ghana, the study recorded a slight increase in participation over the four decades under review. The rise in participation has not been consistent. In all the three spheres, the rate falls rather sharply in the 1970s and 1980s. The few women in public life are heavily based in either the arts if they happen to be in academia or in social sector in executive positions and in politics. Participation rates in science and science-based institutions are lowest. (DÜI-Hff)
