RELIGIOUS BELIEF AND THE PRACTICE OF PSYCHIATRY
In: Health and social care chaplaincy, S. 16-20
ISSN: 2051-5561
A psychiatrist reflects upon his long experience of the complex interaction between religion and psychiatry. Although committed to the advances brought by the bio medical approach to illness, he identifies a widespread neglect of the Spiritual in mental health care, which belies its claim to be truly holistic. The article discusses the concept of spiritual illness and the limits of psychiatry, and then poses the question whether religious belief is good for a person's mental health. In his conclusion the author, himself a Christian, underlines the need for psychiatry to have the fullest possible understanding of the patient's world view, and that this will necessarily involve a consideration of the importance of the Spiritual.

A Path Dependency Approach to Governance Practices at a Public University of the Western Cape, South Africa
In: Journal of public administration and governance, Band 11, Heft 1, S. 110
ISSN: 2161-7104
This paper investigates the governance practices embedded within governance structures at the disposal of students at a public tertiary education institution, and student unrest as a mechanism to sway decision-making and reform policy at the case study institution of higher learning. In particular, the study is guided by a qualitative research paradigm using a structured interview tool to gather primary data using the University of the Western Cape (UWC) situated in Cape Town, South Africa, as a bounded case study, against the backdrop of the 2015-2016 #FeesMustFall (FMF) protests. It is suggested in this paper that student unrest is not the main reason, but rather a symptom of the broader inadequacies of the current participatory mechanisms available in university governance structures in general, and at the UWC. Employing a Path Dependency Theoretical (PDT) Approach. The article concludes by analyzing the findings of the empirical research, by identifying several themes and sub-themes.

The Influence of Preencounter Affect on Satisfaction with an Anxiety-Provoking Service Encounter
In: Journal of service research, Band 1, Heft 4, S. 333-346
ISSN: 1552-7379
Although researchers have considered how postencounter affect influences satisfaction with services, little is known about the influence of preencounter affect on consumer responses to a service encounter. In this article, the authors investigate the effects of preencounter fear and joy on service expectations and postencounter responses (i.e., affect, performance perceptions, and satisfaction) in anxiety-provoking service encounters. In a longitudinal field study, they demonstrate that preencounter fear decreases expectations of a service encounter and increases satisfaction with the service provided. Preencounter joy increases post-encounter consumer evaluations of a service provider's performance. The implications of these findings are discussed for service marketing theory and practice.
Mitigating heat demand peaks in buildings in a highly renewable European energy system
Space and water heating accounts for about 40% of final energy consumption in the European Union and thus plays a key role in reducing overall costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Many scenarios to reach net-zero emissions in buildings rely on electrification, but meeting the heat demand peaks in the winter can be challenging, particularly when wind and solar resources are low. This paper examines how to mitigate space heating demand peaks most cost-effectively in a top-down, sector-coupled model with carbon dioxide emissions constraint to be net-zero. It introduces the first model that co-optimises both supply and efficiency simultaneously including all European countries with hourly resolution. The competition between technologies to address these heating peaks, namely building retrofitting, thermal energy storage and individual hybrid heat pumps with backup gas boilers is examined. A novel thought experiment demonstrates that the level of building renovation is driven by the strong seasonal heat peaks, rather than the overall energy consumption. If all three instruments are applied, total costs are reduced by up to 17%. Building renovation enables the largest benefit with cost savings of up to 14% and allows individual gas boilers to be removed from the energy system without significant higher costs.

Supplier-initiated ingredient/component branding
In: The journal of business & industrial marketing, Band 35, Heft 6, S. 1023-1035
ISSN: 2052-1189
Purpose
This paper aims to understand the process of initiating ingredient/component (IC) branding from the supplier's perspective. It proposes modeling entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as an antecedent factor and differentiation abilities (functional and reputational) as mediators. Investigating IC branding from the supplier's perspective is critical given the cost and risk associated with implementing such a strategy.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 5,254 manufacturing companies were screened to identify IC supplier firms that meet certain criteria. Survey data were collected from 77 top managers (Chief Executive Officers or Chief Marketing Officers) of IC supplier firms. The paper uses partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and SPSS in analyzing data.
Findings
The results indicate that IC branding is a complex strategy – one involving a number of steps that need to be taken in a specific order. More specifically, results indicate that IC branding starts with EO exerting a positive influence on IC functional differentiation ability (FDA). FDA facilitates reputational differentiation ability (RDA), which in turn encourages the supplier to initiate IC branding.
Originality/value
This paper addresses an important gap by studying the process through, which suppliers initiate IC branding.
