Georgia: The GOP Tightens Its Grip
In: American review of politics, Band 26, S. 43-63
ISSN: 1051-5054
Describes the increasing GOP dominance in Georgia, with particular reference to the 2004 election. Because both parties universally recognized the state as a Bush stronghold, neither challenged Georgia's Electoral College counts. The election was more noteworthy for the state's other ballot results. Georgia was the site of one of only three instances in which a congressional incumbent whose House seat had not been redistricted was defeated. The election was also the first in which Georgia voters chose a second Republican senator. Even more strikingly, the GOP took control of both state legislative bodies for the first time in over 130 years. Tables, References. K. Coddon
