In this article, the author analyzes the results of two statistical researches on the influx of undocumented Mexicans to the United States in order to dismantle the supposed relation ship, defended by northamerican public and political instances, between the devaluation of the mexican peso which occurred on december 19th, 1994, and the increase of these inflows. Migration from Mexico to the United States is conceived as a circular process in which individuals move to and fro between two countries, both in legal and undocumented ways, pushed by the interplay of supply and demand, thus building up a social bond formed by the processes of interactions between mexicans and U.S. nationals within the framework of a relationship related to labour ; En el presente artículo el autor analiza los resultados de dos investigaciones estadísticas sobre los flujos de mexicanos indocumentados hacia los Estados Unidos, para desmontar la supuesta relación, defendida desde instancias públicas y políticas norteamericanas, entre la devaluación del peso mexicano, acaecida el 19 de diciembre de 1994 y el aumento de dichos flujos.

Argues that Douglas S. Massey & Emilio A. Parrado's "International Migration and Business Formation in Mexico" (1998) is limited by its sampling procedures. While the authors make a persuasive case against the notion that international migration inevitably leads to economic stagnation & dependency, their conclusion that this migration represents a key source of capital is not empirically supported. To substantiate this claim, it is asserted that more research is needed using systematic random samples to directly specify the cost of migration for migrants, their communities, & nations. D. Ryfe
