INTERACT - Researching Third Country Nationalsメ Integration as a Three-way Process - Immigrants, Countries of Emigration and Countries of Immigration as Actors of Integration ; Despite the 2008 economic crisis and the increase in emigration flows, immigration to Italy has continued, albeit to a lesser extent than in previous years. In 2013 immigrants stood at 7.4% of the country population. Nevertheless, immigration is still considered a problem, even an emergency: political and public attention is often focussed on illegal migration, whereas a well-structured integration policy discourse is nowhere to be seen. This paper offers an insight into this issue, giving an overview on integration policies in Italy: which social actors are involved in the formulation and implementation of these policies, and how the issue is discussed in public and political discourses. Mapping the main policy tools and social actors in migrant integration, the paper highlights how Italian integration policies are mostly concentrated on economic integration, whereas social and cultural policies remain marginal. The paper also shows that a gap between policies and practices may occur, due to failed or absent policies, which is largely compensated for by the intervention of non-state actors. ; INTERACT is co-financed by the European University Institute and the European Union.

- Today young immigrants are a sizeable portion of the Italian youth. It becomes necessary to look at their lives and experiences, because they are an important part of the entire immigrant population, and they will become Italian citizens. The article explores the strategies that young immigrants use to construct their identities, paying attention to musical styles, fashion styles, ways to have fun. In fact they are useful tools in order to define and to communicate one's own identity. The aim is to underline how young immigrants' patterns of consumption could be considered as instruments to react or to be 'assimilated' socially or culturally. Keywords Young immigrants, identity and adolescence, pattern of consumption.

- The number of immigrant children in Italy has been increasing more and more. They are impacting both on immigration as a phenomenon and on receiving societies. Thus, it becomes important and useful to understand which factors matter in second generation's paths and potential trajectories. Through a presentation of different analytical approaches on the phenomenon of migration, the paper explores the role of the family, the ethnic community and friends, as well as of religion and religious organizations in the promotion or prevention of positive forms of inclusion. With a specific focus on the Italian context, it explains the social and cultural transformation that characterises immigrant families, stressing the role that can be played by the human and social capital embedded in ethnic networks. The main aim of this paper is to go beyond the assimilation approaches and to highlight how immigrant families, ethnic networks and religious organizations could promote integration and the upward mobility of future generations. Keywords: Immigration, Second Generation, Ethnic Communities, Integration, Social Cohesion.
