Institutions have returned to the research agenda of social sciences on renewed theoretical foundations. The new institutional economics & the historical & comparative institutional analysis have made theoretical contributions on the historical, political, & economic role of institutions, with Douglass North & Avner Greif being the main contributors. This paper analyzes the process of institutional change of the Spanish economy in the transition from Francoism to democracy. The analysis studies the existence of a Northian predatory State in the self-undermining institutional equilibrium of the early Francoism, & it follows the path of institutional change towards the self-reinforcing institutions with a contractual State on the democratic stage. In recent decades, the study of legislative institutions on renewed theoretical foundations has occupied a high profile in political economics. The organizational structure of each Congress slants parliamentary processes, & acts as an institutional mechanism impacting the way public policies are drawn up. The study of the American Congress has been the main focus of this research program, with the analysis of Weingast & Marshall (1988) as one of its main points of reference. This article extends the same type of analysis to the Congress of Deputies in Spain, analyzing a model governing parliamentary processes in a quite different setting from the American one. The roles of committees, parliamentary groups & the individual congress members characterizes two very different institutional structures. Tables, References. Adapted from the source document.

61 91 10 2 ; SWORD ; [EN] In recent decades, the New Institutional Economics has brought about the "return of institutions" to the economic mainstream, and institutional theory and analysis have been developed from Ronald Coase's notion of transaction costs and Douglass North's view on institutions. The Nobel Prize award in Economics to Oliver Williamson and Elinor Ostrom in 2009 has pointed out the relevance of the new institutional approach. Natural Resource Economics has included the institutional determinants of the management of natural resources into its research agenda. In this sense, the advances of the New Institutional Economics allows the development of institutional analysis in the field of the Economics of Natural Resources, such as Elinor Ostrom's work has shown. This paper presents an integral and updated perspective of the foundations of the New Institutional Economics that constitute a set of theoretical inputs for the analysis of institutions and governance in the management of natural resources. Caballero Miguez, G.; Garza Gil, MD. (2011). The new institutional economics and the economics of natural resources: Commons, institutions. Governance and institutional change. Economía Agraria y Recursos Naturales - Agricultural and Resource Economics.

Social sciences have experienced the return of institutions into the main research agenda, and a new institutionalism has been developed to understand the role of institutions. The award of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economics to the political scientist Elinor Ostrom for her "analysis of economic governance, especially the commons" has promoted the recognition of modern institutional analysis and resized contemporary political economy. This paper is an integral approach to Ostrom's contributions and analyzes the evolution of her thinking throughout the major advances of her work over time. Her early contributions on public policy and polycentric systems, her seminal study on social norms in the governance of the commons, the focus on social capital and her multi-level framework of socio-ecological systems are her main contributions on polycentric governance.
