; The Roman west followed the Urbs' canonical pattern of publicly displaying in bronze tablets those legal documents to which inviolability and durability wanted to be given, as documented in Baetica's paradigmatic case. The high number of bronze inscriptions recovered in recent years in this province has allowed for substantial improvement in our knowledge about the meaning and the heterogeneous functionality of such documents. Marble was, in contrast, the chosen material for inscribing this kind of documents in the East, if there was not an express instruction otherwise.

; Starting from the idea that both the name and the current concept of "cities of power" never existed in the Roman provinces, the paper provides a brief overview not only of the dissimilar terms "clarissimae" and "celeberrumae urbes", but also of the legal rank of the cities. It then analyses: the notion of power on this subject and its expression in the province, the holders of this power and their functions, municipal autonomy and the anachronism of the notion of "capital" in the modern sense of the word, before moving on the leading cities in the province of Hispania Ulterior Baetica. ; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad HAR2014-55857-P
